Life is a Stage
Melbourne has always been touted as the cultural capital of Australia and with good reason. With its Museums, Galleries and Live Music the culture capital has kept its residents entertained for many years. For me its the best place to see a show as Melbourne is the home of the heritage theatres the Regent and the Princess. These venues are are also recognised as two of the finest theatres in Australia.
The Princess Theatre was originally built in 1852 and was then relocated to its current location in 1886. The Regent opened its doors in1929. Both theatres suffered with neglect but with some vision were restored and reoped in the 1980's and 90's respectively.
The Princess Theatre was reopened to the sounds of the French Revolution with the classic 'Les Miserables' and followed by the brilliance of Andrew Lloyd Webbers 'Phantom of the Opera'. Since then the theatre has played home to productions such as 'Cats' and more recently 'Wicked'.
The Regents rebirth was to the sounds of another Andrew Lloyd Webber masterpiece 'Sunset Boulevade'.

In 2010 both theatres will be home of two wonderful productions, showcasing the best of Australias talent. 'Hairspray' will open at the Princess theatre later this year Directed by the legendary David Atkins and choreographed by Jason Coleman. Hairpray has reached a new generation of fand thanks to the movie version that stared GenY pinup boy Zac Efron and pinup boy for all generations John Travolta (If you havent seen the film I highly recommed it as John Travoltas character is priceless).
The 80's have already hit the stage with the movie come musical 'Fame' at the Regent Theatre. With choreography by Kelley Abbey and staring many of the previous 'So You Think You Can Dance” contestants this high energy show will get you moving and keep you moving for days to follow.
