What cars does Budget have?

Budget offers compact cars, economy cars, intermediate cars, SUVs, wagons, and passenger vans. The available range of vehicles varies per location.

How can I pay for my car hire with Budget?

AMEX, Mastercard, Visa, and Diners Club credit cards are accepted for vehicle payments with Budget. You can also pay with a Visa or Mastercard debit card.

How much does Budget require for security bond and how long will it take to refund?

Both credit and debit card payments require a $200 security hold​ ($400 for commercial vehicles) in addition to the estimated total cost of the vehicle. You won’t have access to these funds until the rental period is completed.​ The refund usually takes 2 to 10 days, but the amount of time depends on your bank.

What is the minimum age to hire a car from Budget in Australia?

Budget’s minimum age requirement is generally 25-years-old. Some Budget locations may allow drivers between the ages of 21 and 24, but this will incur a young driver surcharge.

What type of driving licence does Budget accept?

To meet Budget’s driving licence requirements, you’ll need to present a valid driver’s licence in English. If your licence is printed in another language, you’ll need an International Driving Permit (IDP).

Does a Budget hire car include insurance?

Yes. Basic cover is included in the rental quote, but if the vehicle is stolen, damaged, or a third-party loss occurs, you’ll have to pay up to the Rental Vehicle Excess amount listed in your Budget rental agreement.

How much does roadside assistance cost for a Budget vehicle?

If you break down due to mechanical issues, you won’t be charged for roadside assistance. In the instance of flat tyres, a flat battery, running out of fuel, or keys locked in the car, a $198 call-out fee will apply.

How do I pay for road tolls with Budget?

All Budget vehicles are fitted with e-Tags, meaning your toll road usage will be recorded and your nominated credit card will be charged by RMS for any amounts accumulated.

Do I have to wash the vehicle before returning it to Budget?

No. Budget doesn’t require you to wash the hire car prior to drop-off, but it’s advised you return the vehicle in fair condition to avoid cleaning fees.

Do I need to refuel before returning the vehicle to Budget?

Yes. Return the hire car with a full tank of petrol to avoid extra charges.

How do I extend the booking period of my Budget hire car?

You can modify your booking with the VroomVroomVroom app or contact our customer care team​ to make changes before your booking period commences. If you’ve already collected your vehicle, you’ll need to contact the Budget depot you collected from. Any changes may alter the total cost of your rental.
