What cars does Thrifty have?

Thrifty offers compact cars, economy cars, intermediate cars, SUVs, wagons, and passenger vans. The available range of vehicles varies per location.

How can I pay for my car hire with Thrifty?

AMEX, Mastercard, Visa, and Diners Club credit cards are accepted for vehicle payments with Thrifty. Visa and Mastercard debit cards are only accepted at some Thrifty locations, and cash payments are not currently supported.

How much does Thrifty require for security bond?

Standard car types commonly require a security deposit of AUD $200. Higher deposits are required for specialist vehicles.

What is the minimum age to hire a car from Thrifty in Australia?

As per their minimum age requirement, you need to be at least 21 years old to hire a car with Thrifty. Drivers aged between 21 and 24 will need to pay a young driver surcharge and will only have access to Thrifty’s standard range of vehicles.

What type of driver licence does Thrifty accept?

Any unrestricted licence, either Australian or international, will satisfy Thrifty’s driving licence requirements. Learner permits and provisional licences are not accepted for vehicle hire, and if your licence isn’t printed in English, you’ll need to present an International Driving Permit (IDP).

Does a Thrifty hire car include insurance?

Yes. Basic cover is included in the rental quote, but should the vehicle be stolen or damaged in an accident, or a third-party loss occurs, you’ll be liable to pay up to the Rental Vehicle Excess amount as per your Thrifty rental agreement.

Does a Thrifty vehicle include roadside assistance?

Yes. Thrifty will provide complimentary roadside assistance for any mechanical-based defects that are inherent to the vehicle. However, for issues caused by human error—or those which aren’t strictly mechanical—you’ll be charged a call-out fee.

How do I pay for road tolls with Thrifty?

As all Thrifty vehicles are fitted with e-Tags, your toll road usage will be tracked. Roads and Maritime Services will charge your nominated credit card for any toll amounts accrued during your journey.

Do I have to wash the vehicle before returning it to Thrifty?

No. Thrifty doesn’t require you to wash the hire car prior to drop-off, but it’s advised you return the vehicle in fair condition to avoid cleaning fees.

Do I need to refuel before returning the vehicle to Thrifty?

Yes. Return the hire car to Thrifty with a full tank of petrol to avoid additional charges.

How do I extend the booking period of my Thrifty hire car?

You can modify your booking with the VroomVroomVroom app or contact our customer care team to make changes before your booking period commences. If you’ve already collected your vehicle, you’ll need to contact the Thrifty depot you collected from. Any changes may alter the total cost of your rental.

Can I get discounts on Thrifty vehicles with VroomVroomVroom?

Yes, but you don’t need to input anything yourself as we automatically add a 5% discount to Thrifty rates. In cases where vehicles are already discounted, the 5% discount may not be offered.
