Yes, adding your spouse (or life partner) as another driver to your rental car is permitted in Australia.
How much is it?
Please note that car rental companies such as Avis, Budget and Hertz do not charge the Spouse of the Lead Driver (of any gender) as an additional driver when you pick your vehicle.
Apart from the main driver's spouse, you may also add the following people as additional drivers for free:
the main driver's employer
employee
fellow employee or partner, if it is disclosed by the primary renter that the vehicle is being rented for business purposes.
Please note that the renter's immediate family who reside with him/her, the renter's employer, employees, fellow employees or partners are all classified as "Authorised Drivers" and are not required to sign an "Additional Driver" form provided they have a valid driver's licence at the time of pick up.
