Smithfield is a little suburb of Sydney, located 30 kilometers car drive from Sydney central business district in the local area of the City of Fairfield and Holroys. The suburb is characterized by a mix of industrial, commercial and residential areas, which makes it great for a short holiday or a weekend getaway.
The suburb was first established by the Aboriginals who had been living in this area for over 30,000 years. In the 19th century, the European settlement began and was previously known as Chisholm's Bush. By the second half of the 19th century, Smithfield was already becoming a semi-rural settlement. Although the suburb is quite small, you will always find affordable accommodation, ranging from fancy hotels to camping sites. Moreover, the venues are also quite generous: funky coffee shops, takeaways, and restaurants that offer a wide array of food.
The Commercial Area is centered around the main street in Smithfield. There are a lot of retail shops, shopping centres, supermarkets, many restaurants and a pub. It is a great place to bring your car hire where you can shop till you drop, then sit down and enjoy a cup of hot coffee or an exotic meal.
The Smithfield Mosque is the oldest Mosque in the area, and was built by Bosnian immigrants in the 1970s. Later it was renamed to Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque in the memory of the founder of Sarajevo, but the building is currently known under the name of Smithfield Mosque.
Parks and Recreation. Smithfield features a wide variety of recreational venues, such as the art gallery, where you can discover both ancient and contemporary works of art, the Smithfield Museum is always hosting unique exhibits that take tourists back in history, or other recreational areas where children can have fun and the parents relax under the trees.
Although Smithfield is a small place, it still has a lot of attractions for tourists to visit and enjoy in the convenience of their car hire.
