Where to go in Oz for NYE 2016
Most people usually celebrate Christmas with their loved ones – enjoying homecooked meal and opening gifts. But New Year's Eve is all about having fun and looking for the best place to party! If you live in Australia, then you already have an idea where to go. However, for those who are planning to spend their holidays in the Land Down Under for the first time, we can help you decide which place to go on December 31. Check out our list of the best New Year's Eve destinations below:
The capital of New South Wales is known worldwide for its spectacular fireworks display. See the night sky of Sydney light up on New Year's Eve with magnificent fireworksshow at Darling Harbour. Best of all, the dazzling display is free so you can just bring some drinks and hang out at the Harbourside or Cockle Bay Wharf. There is also a wide selection of restaurants, cafes, and bars in the area so make sure to book a seat in advance so you can get the best view of the fireworks display. If you are planning to drive your hire car to Darling Harbour, there are several car park options within and around the vicinity. It is advisable to book a car space ahead of time so you wouldn't worry looking for a place to park your rental car when you get there.
Just like Sydney, Brisbane also boasts of its marvelous fireworksdisplay at South Bank. You can see the sky over Brisbane River light up at 8:30 pm and midnight of December 31. Aside from the fireworks show, there will also be movie screenings and food trucks in the area which is perfect for the whole family. The event is free but please remember not to bring any alcoholic beverages since these aren't allowed in the venue. Bikes and scooters are also not permitted so it is best to drive a rental car to Clem Jones Promenade in South Bank Parklands. There is an undergroundcar park at Little Stanley Street which can accommodate up to 800 vehicles.
Unlike Sydney and Brisbane which have a central location for New Year's Eve celebration, the events in Melbourne are spread out in various areas including the CBD, Southbank, Federation Square, and the Docklands. There are also parties held in suburbs such as St Kilda, Richmond, Fitzroy, South Yarra and Port Melbourne. This means that you have more options where to celebrate New Year's Eve. If you prefer a masquerade party, you can check out the NYE event of European Bier Café & Aer Rooftop Bar at Exhibition Street or Little Red Pocket at Little Collins Street.
Just like Melbourne, Gold Coast turns into one big party place on New Year's Eve – spanning from Coolangatta to Spit. If you are in search for a place where you can enjoy amazing fireworks displays, then head to Surfers Paradise. The shows will be held at 8 p.m. and midnight on the famous beach. When travelling via rental car, take note that some roads will be closed to ensure the safety of the pedestrians. If you prefer a unique celebration, then join the White Party NYE 2016 where you get to wear your best white outfit, go on a sunset boat cruise and dance to the sounds of renowned Aussie DJs.
