Which city to visit in Australia in December

    1. Melbourne

The coastal capital of Victoria is a great place to visit via hire car. There are many road trip destinations around Melbourne that are perfect for a day trip including Port Fairy which is around 385 km away from the city. After cruising the Great Ocean Road, enjoy a quick stroll along the beach or enjoy the sunset at the serene seaside town. If you don't want to drive too far, you can explore the French Island National Park (81 km) or Phillip Island (148 km). Both can be accessed via M1.

    2. Sydney

Driving around the capital of New South Wales is awesome because there are many wonderful attractions to see such as the iconic Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, but there are also many amazing places near the city that are waiting to be explored. Cruising along the Grand Pacific Drive and the Greater Blue Mountains Drive should be part of your itinerary when you visit Sydney.  Experience the outback by taking the Darling River Run, which is a 730-km route spanning from Darling River to Wentworth.

    3. Brisbane

Day trippers have several choices of destinations to visit from Brisbane. Whether you are in search of bayside villages or mountain hamlets, you are sure to find an interesting place to explore. If you are looking for an awesome beach escape, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast are approximately an hour away via M1. Do you prefer a road less travelled? Drive along the Scenic Rim region which is also about an hour away by car rental from the Brisbane city centre.

    4. Perth

The location of Western Australia's capital city makes it an ideal place to drive around whilst enjoying the picturesque views of the Swan River and sandy beaches. Since it is summer in Australia, why not take time to cool off at the nearest waterfall. Most of the falls are just an hour drive from Perth's central business district including the Lesmurdie Falls and Sixty Foot Falls. If you want to get away from the crowd, head to the Wedge Island but make sure to rent a 4X4 so you can easily drive over the large sand dunes.

    5. Gold Coast

The city itself is enough to go on a wonderful road trip because it is blessed with more than 100,000 hectares of rainforest and 60 kms of beach. There are also many national parks located nearby that can be easily explore with a hire car including the Arakwal National Park (3.2 km from Byron Bay) and Broadwater National Park (500 m from Evan Head).
