Grandpas Guide to Renting a Car in Perth
Grandpa is ready for another road trip. Our goal for today is to go around Perth, see the scenic drives, and announce to the world the beauty it has to offer.Oh yes, Perth.
Perth is the capital and the largest city of Western Australia. Its metropolitan area has a population of approximately 1, 659, 000, making it the fourth most populous city in Australia.
The metropolitan area is located in the south-west of the continent ― between the Indian Ocean and a low coastal escarpment known as the Darling Range. The central business district and suburbs of Perth are situated near the Swan River.
Ok, before we start the road trip, rent a car.
The best place to decide on what car to rent is on vroomvroomvroom.com.au. This site doesn’t only offer a lot of options, it also offers the cheapest car rentals with the best service. You will not be disappointed.
Now that you have a car to use, put on those seatbelts and let’s go to places that will surely make you smile. I have here suggestions of the places where you will surely enjoy not just the scenery but also the activities that you can do.
1. Are you into white water rafting? Visiting the Bells Rapids will surely be fulfilling. The Bells Rapids is located in Brigadoon. The area has picnic and bush walking spots that will serve as a prime viewing area to see competitors in the annual Avon Descent White Race battle with the rapids. Access to the rapids is by passing through a gravel road which leads to a parking area.
You can also explore the streams and waterfalls as you wander along the trails beside the Avon River. The water may be alluring but you must always remember that the area is not recommended for swimming.
2. Up for more rapids? Have a stop over at Syd’s Rapids and Aboriginal Heritage Trail in Avon Valley. The 5.2 kilometers Rapids and Heritage walk is located at the intersection of the Walyunga National Park and the Swan River which is 40 kilometers north-east of Perth.
Walyunga National Park lies in the Darling Range and the Swan River runs through the center of the park, forming a string of placid pools along the valley floor during summer and a raging torrent with long series of rapids during winter. The latter provides Australia’s best white water canoeing courses and is part of the annual Avon Decent White Race.
This area is not just about white water rafting, it also provides interpretation on the indigenous history and plants and animals.
The 1.2 kilometer Aboriginal Heritage Trail meanders along the river bank, between Walyunga Pool and Boogarup Pool, and allows people to learn about Aboriginal myths and legends. You can also see the park’s plants and animals through the eyes of the original inhabitants.
During spring and winter, be ready to see the jaw-dropping beauty of wildflowers.
3. If you’re into bikes, then the Windan Bridge Loop in East Perth is waiting for you.Windan Bridge Loop is a 3 kilometer bike trail that will surely make your day. It is also just one of the 12 riding routes around the Swan River. Bikes can be hired near Causeway. Here’s a tip: Most bike paths are dual use. So please ring your bell and be considerate of walkers.
The trail is located on the banks of the Swan River. It will take riders past Herrison Island, Burswood golf course, East Perth and its galleries, public art and cafes, and the eastern side of the central district.
You will witness the diverse wildlife ― birds, fishes, river dolphins and even the bull shark. The river is an essential part of Perth’s identity.
4. After a day full of activities, relax and drive at Ride the Sunset Coast.Being located on the west coast, Perth is privileged to have fantastic beaches, beautiful sunsets over the Indian Ocean, and a cycle way that stretches for many kilometers along the coast.
The Ride the Sunset Coast pathway extends from the southern suburb of Munster to Burns Beach, north of Perth. The 14 kilometer trip contains highlights such as the Hillary’s Marina, the Marmion Marine Park and the coastal vegetation.
Fishing areas, swimming beaches, lookouts, toilets, pubs, kiosks and stores, can all be seen along the road. Trail markers along the route provide distances to the next section.
Well, I hope you enjoyed the trip. When I went through this road trip, I realized that driving isn’t just about the wheels. It’s also about the road and its surroundings.
