Lake Guthridge is an artificial lake created in Sale, and it was originally a bog. As a result of the constantly increasing population, the bog was eventually turned into a lake, and it was named after Nehemiah Guthridge, the first mayor of Sale. Only 2 metres deep, the lake gives you, however, the chance to relax by its side and to admire the beautiful sights.
The Gippsland Art Gallery can be found in Sale. Many international and local artists have exhibited their work here throughout the years. The gallery is the place where you will be able to learn more about the local culture, but in fact, art of all media can be admired here. You will even find a library, filled with art references.
The Sale Swing Bridge spans over the Latrobe River. It was built in 1883, and it represents a true landmark, considering that it is the first movable bridge that was ever built in the Victoria area. The Criterion Hotel is one of the oldest facilities of the kind in Victoria, and one of the most impressive as well. It was built in 1865 and it is listed on the Register of National Estates.
Our Lady of Sion Convent is another historical landmark of the city, and it is now part of the Sion Campus of Catholic College in Sale. A convent this big is probably a rare thing, so make sure that you include it on your 'to see' list.
