There are some exceptions - Kangaroo Island for THRIFTY, HERTZ & EUROPCAR for vehicles picked up in Adelaide, and Budget vehicles can travel with written authority to Bruny Island. These exceptions are subject to change, and all rentals are subject to current local conditions. To clarify further email help@VroomVroomVroom.com.au
- Why are flight details important?
There are two important reasons why this information is helpful on reservations.
The flight information indicates to the Car Rental Company where to have your vehicle parked to be closest to your flight arrival. There are usually kiosks at both domestic and international terminals. Delays can occur if no flight numbers are available.
Also, if your flight is delayed, the Car Rental Companies will ensure a staff member is available for a confirmed reservation.

Five suppliers have varying procedure for breakdowns, which also depends on the type of breakdown - mechanical, or accident, and where the breakdown occurs.
Some provide this service within the company, others use the AAA service - this also depends on type of breakdown, where and when the breakdown occurs. The counter staff will be able to provide details specific to how the service is provided at the time of pickup. Additional roadside assistance can be accepted when the car is picked up - for accidental incidents such as lost keys, flat battery etc.
- How old do I need to be to hire a car?
In most cases you need to be a minimum of 25 years old BUT you can still rent a car if you are over 21 years old. In this case a mandatory surcharge usually applies and the in ability to lower excess charges may also apply. This varies from company to company. Some vehicle types may also be restricted.

Hertz Tasmania - Driver's Licence Requirements
Renters in Tasmania must have held a drivers licence for at least three years and not be on a provisional licence. Provisional licences are not accepted in Tasmania. In Tasmania, drivers 75 years and over must present a medical certificate at the time of pickup.
From all other Hertz locations in Australia, there is no set maximum driving age, however, a medical certificate is recommended from drivers over 75. Ultimately, it is the location's decision if they will rent to a person over the age of 75.
- Can anyone drive the vehicle? All suppliers allow additional drivers. The five suppliers have varied policy and charges - the terms and conditions will advise the requirements. In most cases - they must be present to provide current open licence (that has been held for more than 12 months as open). Charges for additional drivers display in the terms and conditions if there is a charge - under "not included in this quote", free for some, up to around $5.50 per day others... Age surcharge will apply, if any drivers are 21 to 25yrs. Help@VroomVroomVroom.com.au is our contact email should you need further assistance.
- Will change in reservation date alter the price?Modifying or changing the booking date location or times, will mean the suppliers re-calculate the booking rates to when you change the booking. This can mean rates go up, or down! It is always best to check all FIVE suppliers - to get the best deal!
- When the reservation dates is changed, is the price re-calculated?In most cases yes. Suppliers re-calculate the reservation rate if pickup times, dates or locations are amended.
- Can I request a tow bar or roof racks to be fitted?Unfortunately none of our suppliers allow tow bars or roof racks to be attached to their vehicles.
- What does it mean when the car I want isn't listed in the price comparison? It usually means it is sold out unfortunately. Trucks are NEVER listed in the search results, 12 seaters only for Europcar. You'll need to make some phone calls for 12 seaters or trucks and utes. Phone numbers and discount codes included here
- Why is it more expensive when I say I'm a foreign customer?
The differences in price are due to different insurance regulations in each country, eg. some residents have lower quotes as most credit cards carry insurance and so they do not need to be charged extra.
Each different country has a different rate that needs to be charged according to the insurance terms and conditions of each rental supplier. These laws make some rates slightly higher than some others. Unfortunately this is unavoidable and part of the conditions of renting a car.
Also suppliers may be participating in marketing to specific countries to encourage tourists, by offering cheap rates. For example when the "throw another shrimp on the barby" or the "best job in the world " campaigns occurred - overseas visitors could receive better rates than Aussies. Likewise if travel is being promoted internally, it can be reversed with Aussies receiving cheaper rates
The suppliers can ask for proof of residency to be eligible for any discounts - you must choose "i live in" - according to where you currently live. Then make sure you have a document to proove this.. eg.. if your licence is not the same address as your answer to "i live in..." then take a phone bill etc to proove it...
- Can I travel with my pets?As each location is different, it is best to contact your pick up depot beforehand.
Suppliers will generally allow small pets to travel along with you, though the car must be returned in the same condition in which it was rented out. Cleaning fees will apply. If there is any damage from the pet, you will be charged for the damage or charged the extra cleaning fee. Traveling with the proper equipment is advised.
You are not allowed to travel with pets in a Thrifty vehicle.
