Thrifty Terms & Conditions - Summary of Key Points

Customers will be required to accept Thrifty Rental terms when collecting the vehicle.

This quote includes:

• G.S.T.
• Stamp duty
• All Thrifty vehicles have Standard Cover. Standard Cover is subject to conditions and exclusions. The Damage Recovery Fee (DRF) is approximately $4,950* - $5,500*. In the case of a Single Vehicle Accident, the SVA Fee of $2,200* applies in addition to the Damage Recovery Fee. Protection options to reduce or reimburse your rental vehicle excess are available including third-party Rental Vehicle Excess insurance or excess reduction at the rental counter.
• Signified kilometre amount (generally unlimited, see below for extra km charge)
• Vehicle Registration
• One way fees if applicable
• Airport taxes and surcharges if applicable
• All vehicle fees related to the booking, eg. Vehicle drop fees, all recovery fees, premium location fees, corporate location fees wherever applicable.

This quote will not include:

• Thrifty will charge your credit card the full cost of rental plus a deposit of between AUD$200 & AUD$1100 from clients upon collection of the vehicle to cover additional charges i.e. fuel, additional kilometres, and liability waiver.
  
• Excess reduction from $31.35* per day (reduces liability to $500 incl GST). Please see our Excess Reduction Guide for further details.
• Credit Card Fee – ​Visa/Mastercard Debit Card 0.70% - ​Visa/Mastercard - 1.1%, Diners Card - 3.29%, American Express - 3.75%.
• Additional Driver fee of $5.50 per driver/per day may apply (capped at 5 days per 30-day rental) NOT Probationary/Provisional P Plate Licence holders.
  
• Child Seats or booster seats (can be purchased after confirmation for $12.65* per seat, per day / $88.55* per 30-day rental.
• Extra kilometre travel (if your rental is limited, the limit cannot be extended, and each km will be charged at $0.25*).
• GPS $12.65* per day / $126.50* per 30-day rental - GPS are subject to availability and can not be guaranteed.
• Any extras signed up for upon arrival, eg. vehicle snow equipment.
• Security deposit where applicable - see below terms and conditions - Payments terms vary for debit Visa/Mca and Credit cards.

AIRPORT PICKUP: IMPORTANT

Accurate Flight Details and Flight arrival time are extremely important. Correct details are a requirement of suppliers to guarantee the reservation. Delays will occur if the incorrect details are added to the reservation - and some suppliers will not hold the reservation longer than 1 hour unless notified.

Hint: if you are delayed - visit the counter of the supplier at your departing airport.

Thrifty Excess Reduction Guide

VroomVroomVroom.com.au does not sell protection products or excess reduction packages, therefore any quotes/enquiries MUST be directed to Thrifty.

• Standard Liability $4950.00* (including GST​)
• Single Vehicle Accident (SVA) $2200* (including GST​) applies, except Northern Territory, Broome and Kununurra, SVA which is $6200.00* (including GST​)
• Luxury 4WD and Specialty Vehicle Liability $5500.00* (including GST​), except Northern Territory, Broome and Kununurra, is $7,700.00* (including GST)​
• Premium Protection - from $31.35* (per day excluding local fees and surcharges). This package reduces your liability to $880.00* (incl GST) or $1100.00* for specialty and luxury vehicles (excluding taxes and local fees)
• The Ultimate Protection option has been sold as part of the all-inclusive product from $39.60* (per day excluding local fees and surcharges). This package reduces your liability to ZERO. The SVA fee is reduced to ZERO for metropolitan locations. SVA always applies to country and remote locations.

Drivers Licences and Age Qualifications

All renters must be aged 21 for standard vehicles at the commencement of the rental. For any driver be they the renter or an additional driver, aged 21 to 24 inclusive, an age surcharge of $27.50* per day applies. No surcharges apply to additional drivers aged 25 years and more. NOT Probationary/Provisional P Plate Licence holders

Thrifty recognises all current non-provisional and non-probationary Australian drivers licences and current overseas licences. NOT Probationary/Provisional P Plate Licence holders

The driver's licence must be in the English language with a photo and produced at the start of the rental. If a renter's licence is not in English or not have a photo, an International Driving Permit will be required.

Add additional drivers at pickup. All drivers must be present. An additional fee of $5.50 per driver/per day may apply (capped at 5 days per 30-day rental).

Credit cards and Credit Card surcharge

Thrifty will charge your credit card the full cost of rental plus a deposit of between AUD$200 & AUD$1100 from clients upon collection of the vehicle to cover additional charges i.e. fuel, additional kilometres, and liability waiver.

This deposit is to be paid by any internationally recognised credit card. NO CASH DEPOSIT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Credit card must be in the name of the authorised renter.

Credit Card Fee All customers who provide a credit card for payment of any part of the rental are subject to a surcharge:

• Visa/Mastercard Debit Card – 0.70%​
• Visa/Mastercard - 1.1%,
  
• Diners Card - 3.29%,
• American Express - 3.75%.

Debit cards (with Visa/Mastercard emblem only) - not accepted at all locations.

• Major depots secure the cost of the rental additional bond. Smaller suburban franchises may take an additional deposit to cover fuelling.
• Pre-paid type cards are NOT accepted.
• Some regional/suburban depots do not allow debit cards (with Visa/MCA emblem) to be used unless excess reduction is accepted at the time of rental.

Please reply to the confirmation email requesting deposit information - our team will contact the depot for you and advise by return email in 1 business day.

Contact Numbers

All booking requests must include a contact number. This is so Thrifty can provide a better service when they have a requirement to contact you regarding the booking. Some smaller airport locations are only staffed for flight arrivals, and Thrifty require flight details to be confirmed prior to arrival.

Age Surcharge

For any driver be they the renter or an additional driver, aged 21 to 24 inclusive, an age surcharge of $27.50* per day applies. The age Surcharge is not included in the Total Cost, Thrifty add this to your rental at the pickup. NOT Probationary/Provisional P Plate Licence holders. Thrifty South Melbourne and Brighton have reduced the daily surcharge to $11 per day.

Baby Seats

Baby Seat and Child Booster Seat are available at most Thrifty locations at a cost of $12.65* per seat per day/ $88.55* per 30-day rental.

GPS Units

Are available from selected Thrifty locations and must be requested at the time of booking. GPS Units are at a cost of $12.65* per day / $126.50* per 30 day rental.

Airline Rewards

*Points earned on time and kilometre charges only. Velocity - 3 to 5 points per $1 depending on membership level

Driving Restrictions

Vehicles must not be used on any unsealed road (being a road not sealed with a hard material such as tar, bitumen or concrete).

No vehicle (including 4WDs) may be used on off-road conditions. Off road conditions include but is not limited to fire trails, beaches, sand, tracks, fields, paddocks, creeks or river crossings.

Damage to overhead, underbody or damage caused by water is not covered by any damage liabilities. All costs would be at the renter's own expense.

Western Australia

Prior written approval by Thrifty WA must be granted if vehicles are travelling interstate. Consideration must be given by the driver for their own safety and contactibility in the event of an accident or incident. Travelling into some areas of Western Australia require National Park Passes, these are available for sale from the Perth Tourist Centre. One-way rentals out of WA are not permitted with the exception of Broome and Kununurra; all vehicles hired from a location in WA must be returned to a location in WA.

South Australia

Travelling into some areas of the South Australia outback may involve the need for a Desert Pass Permit.

Important Note: Thrifty do not offer any cover whilst vehicles are being loaded on or off of ferries, or whilst on the ferry. Customers need to be aware of this. They take vehicles on ferries at their own risk.

All vehicles are permitted to travel to Kangaroo Island if collected from a corporate location only. (Adelaide city and airport only)​

• Travel to Kangaroo Island must be advised at time of collection.
• Customers will be required to sign a disclaimer when they collect the car
• Mechanical failure on the island - there is one breakdown service and location on the island therefore response times are not guaranteed.
• Passenger vehicles are only allowed on sealed roads
• Please be advised that the vehicles are not covered on the ferry and customers are responsible for any damage occurred during this trip.
• Customers are to obtain written authority by having the Rental Service Agent note on the Rental Agreement at the pickup of the vehicle
• Vehicles can only be hired from Adelaide Airport, Adelaide City for travel onto Kangaroo Island.
• Important Note: Thrifty do not offer any cover whilst vehicles are being loaded on or off of ferries, or whilst on the ferry. Customers need to be aware of this. They take vehicles on ferries at their own risk.

Far North Queensland

Travel is permitted as far as Cooktown only via the inland road (Peninsula Development Road / Cooktown Development Road). Travel to Cooktown via the

coastal road (Cape Tribulation Road) is not permitted; customers can only travel as far as Cape Tribulation.

Fraser Island

Thrifty vehicles are no longer allowed to be taken or driven on Fraser Island.

Tasmania

Vehicles cannot be taken onto the Spirit of Tasmania ferry and into Tasmania.

NT, Broome and Kununurra

There are many areas and sites that Thrifty NT will not allow access to and where different damage liability conditions apply. Listed below are the areas where these vehicle types MUST NOT be driven at any time without Thrifty NT's written permission and agreement.

Should you decide to enter these areas Thrifty NT WILL NOT provide any damage liability coverage. Any damage to the vehicle, either mechanical or panel, sustained in these areas or as a result of being in these areas will be at the HIRER'S EXPENSE as will any costs relating to vehicle recovery.

Thrifty reserves the right to deny access to some areas due to road conditions without notice.

Access is denied as per above to the areas listed within the following regions:

Kakadu Region Jim Jim and Twin Falls all year.

Arnhem Land - Access to Arnhem Land including Gurig/Cobourg National Park is denied subject to Thrifty's approval and on presentation of permits obtained from the relevant authority for entry to Aboriginal Land.

Litchfield Region

Katherine Region - Central Arnhem Road to Gove beyond Bulman.

Kimberley Region - Mitchell Plateau and Kalumburu.

Gibb River Road travel between November and April is subject to seasonal road conditions and access limited to Large Manual 4WD's only (LRMR and IFMR)

Broome - Cable Beach

Central Australia - Tanami Track, Gunbarrell Highway, Plenty/Donahue Highway, Canning Stock Route, Oodnadatta Track, Strzlecki Track, Birdsville Track only when travelling with another vehicle and with Thrifty's consent and knowledge.

Other Areas The Gulf Track, Cape York Peninsular, Fraser Island (for a vehicle rented from NT) Larapinta and Namatjira Drive (Mereenie Loop Road & & Gibb River Road) - Any damage sustained to the vehicle whilst on these roads is subject to the standard damage liabilities of $6,200* for multi-vehicle accident and $7,700* for a single vehicle accident. Any additional liability reducer purchased does not apply for travel on these roads.

Aboriginal Permit Land - any entry to Aboriginal Land without a permit is illegal. Access to any land requiring a permit for entry is denied without Thrifty's approval and entry permit must be provided to Thrifty prior to entry to such lands. Collision Damage Cover is not valid in the event of an unauthorised entry into Aboriginal Land or breach of permit regulations

Road Closures

Any road or gazetted track closed by any statutory authority in any region.

Dusk to Dawn

Any damage sustained to a rented vehicle as a result of a collision with an animal between the hours of dusk and dawn will not be covered by Thrifty's damage liabilities. All damages and recovery costs will be the responsibility of the hirer.

Ferries and Trains

Thrifty does not offer any cover whilst vehicles are being loaded on or off the ferries, or whilst on the ferry. Customers need to be aware of this as they take vehicles on ferries at their own risk.

Snow Cover (June - Oct)

Cars, Buses and 4WD's are permitted above the snow line, however, Snow Pass must be purchased at $23.65* per day including GST. This is in addition to the standard loss or damage cover available.

The definition of the Snowline is either (a) the entrance to the National Parks or (b) wherever snow chains are required to be fitted and used or any road where snow or ice is present. Coverage is limited to sealed public roads or car parks.

Thrifty do not hire show chains or roof racks. Any damage or loss caused to the vehicle through the use of snow chains and roof racks will not be covered.

Vehicles must remain on sealed bitumen roads.
