It's always best to be aware of the minimum age requirements, especially if you want to rent a car in Australia. In most cases, you will need to be over 21 where a mandatory surcharge usually applies for drivers between 21 to 24. Avis : In Australia, the minimum age to drive is 21. A Young Driver surcharge will apply for drivers ages 21-24, regardless of length of rental.
Budget : Budget requires drivers to be over the age of 25, however, some Budget locations have lower minimum age requirements, such as 21-24, which may incur a daily surcharge.
East Coast Car Rentals: Drivers aged between 21-24 are permitted to hire, but are subject to an age surcharge.
Enterprise : You must be aged over 21 to hire a vehicle with Enterprise. Those between 21 to 24 will be subject to a surcharge, and are restricted only to economy and standard vehicles.
Europcar : You should be 21 or over (higher age limits may apply on some vehicle classes), and must hold a valid current unrestricted driver's licence for the particular class of vehicle hired. Learner's permits and provisional or probationary licences are not acceptable.
Hertz : Drivers aged 21-24 years will be eligible to rent subject to an age surcharge.
Thrifty : You must be aged over 21 to hire a vehicle with Thrifty, and you will be required to pay a Young Driver Surcharge.
