Minimum Age to Rent a Car in Australia

    minimum age

It's always best to be aware of the minimum age requirements, especially if you want to rent a car in Australia. In most cases, you will need to be over 21 where a mandatory surcharge usually applies for drivers between 21 to 24. Check the list of the minimum age requirements for each of our suppliers to gather more information.

Avis: In Australia, the minimum age to drive is 21. A Young Driver surcharge will apply for drivers ages 21-24, regardless of length of rental.

Budget: Budget requires drivers to be over the age of 25, however, some Budget locations have lower minimum age requirements, such as 21-24, which may incur a daily surcharge.

Enterprise: You must be aged over 21 to hire a vehicle with Enterprise. Those between 21 to 24 will be subject to a surcharge, and are restricted only to economy and standard vehicles.

Europcar: You should be 21 or over (higher age limits may apply on some vehicle classes), and must hold a valid current unrestricted driver's licence for the particular class of vehicle hired. Learner's permits and provisional or probationary licences are not acceptable.

Hertz: Drivers aged 21-24 years will be eligible to rent subject to an age surcharge.

Thrifty: You must be aged over 21 to hire a vehicle with Thrifty, and you will be required to pay a Young Driver Surcharge.
