How Do I Request a Child Seat for my Rental Car?
The safety of their child is something every parent must consider when travelling by car. When you reserve your car hire, keep in mind that there are laws in each state and territory in Australia which regulate the kind of baby seat to use for children ages 0 to 16 years.
Your child must be seated in a rear-facing seat until he or she is six months old. Children below seven years old should never sit in the front, and depending on their age, there may be other requirements for the seating arrangements.
With a wide selection of child seats available in the market right now, some parents get overwhelmed by the choices and end up buying or renting the wrong car seat. To help you choose the perfect car seat for your child, VroomVroomVroom has put together a guide.
What type of child seat do I need?
The type of child seat you will need depends on the age of the child. Here is a general guideline to the types of seats that are available in Australia:
- 6-12 months: Your child must be in a rear-facing child seat. Please not that capsules are not available from car rental companies - only rear-facing seats.
- 6 months to 4 years: Your child should be restrained in a approved forward-facing seat with a built-in harness.
- 4 years to 7 years: Your child should be seated in a booster seat that has an adjustable seat belt with a harness.
