How to cancel, extend, or modify your hire car booking

Once you’ve booked your hire car there are a number of options available if you need to cancel, extend, or modify your rental car booking.

Once you’ve collected your rental car, you’ll need to contact the car rental provider directly if your plans change and you need to cancel, extend, or modify your booking. Please note that you will be charged for any additional days you add to your car hire booking, and the rate may be different to the original price you were charged. During peak times and holiday periods you may not be able to extend your booking if the car rental company does not have any vehicles available. Read on to learn more about each booking change situation.

How to modify your car rental booking

If you haven't picked up your rental car yet, you can still modify your booking with VroomVroomVroom — please use one of the following options:

Change of mind policy: Cancelling your car rental booking

Depending on the type of booking you have made, you can cancel your VroomVroomVroom rental vehicle booking at any time before you collect your hire car by following the instructions in your booking confirmation email or by contacting us through the above Customer Care Team link.

Bookings without prepayment

Where you have made a booking through VroomVroomVroom that did not require payment at the time of booking, no cancellation fees will apply.

Rental car bookings with a paid deposit

Where you have paid VroomVroomVroom a deposit for your booking we’ll refund your deposit in full if you cancel more than 48 hours before the rental car collection date and time specified in your booking confirmation email.

Subject to your refund rights under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) (“Australian Consumer Law”), no refund will be made in the following situations:

  • You cancel your booking which was confirmed less than 48 hours in advance of the booking pick up date and time.

  • You cancel your booking less than 48 hours in advance of the booking pick up date and time.

  • You have already collected your rental car.

  • You fail to collect your vehicle at the collection date and time with all the necessary documentation and/or a credit card with enough available funds for the rental vehicle’s security deposit.

  • You don’t meet the hire car provider’s eligibility or other rental requirements and the provider refuses to provide you with a rental car on that basis.

Third-party vehicle rental aggregator bookings

If you have made a booking through VroomVroomVroom with a third-party rental vehicle aggregator, such as WiseCars or GoSee, the Terms and Conditions which apply to cancellations and refunds for that booking are contained in the provider’s Terms and Conditions accepted by you at the time of booking. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for further details.

Insurance policies

If you have purchased a Prosura insurance policy, cancelling or modifying your car rental booking will not automatically update your policy. To cancel your Prosura policy, please use Prosura’s Self Service Portal or contact Prosura’s Customer Care Team.

Things to consider when modifying or cancelling your booking

  • Although you can cancel at any time prior to collecting your vehicle, you may forfeit any prepaid deposits if you cancel within 48 hours of the collection time. Please check your confirmation email to view specific details for your booking.

  • Rates are subject to change for all modified bookings as per the rental provider’s calculations. VroomVroomVroom does not set rental car rates.

  • The car rental provider’s Terms and Conditions can be found in your confirmation email.

How to extend your rental car booking

If you need to extend the rental period of your hire car, the process depends on if you have already collected the vehicle or not.

Extending a hire car rental before you have collected your vehicle

If you decide to extend your rental period before you have collected your hire car, this is considered a VroomVroomVroom booking modification. As such, you can modify your rental period through the VroomVroomVroom website or app, by following the instructions in your booking confirmation email, or by contacting our Customer Care Team.

Do note that as mentioned above, car hire extensions may change the daily rate applied to your rental, and impact on the overall fee accordingly. Daily rates fluctuate both by how long in advance the booking was made, and also by the overall length of the booking. Typically a longer rental may have a lower daily rate, so if you modify your booking by reducing the number of days the hire car is rented for, the daily rate may increase.

Extending a hire car rental after you have collected your vehicle

If you have already collected your rental car and decide you want to extend the rental period, you need to contact the rental car provider directly. So for example, if you have rented a Hertz car and want to extend the rental period by a few days, then you need to contact Hertz directly to arrange this. Likewise if you have a No Birds hire car and need to reduce the length of your rental, you need to contact No Birds to arrange this.
