Can you have your hire car delivered to you?
By Vroom Team • Reviewed 04 Mar 2026
It would be nice, but rental car providers in Australia generally do not offer this service. All is not lost though.
It’s common in many countries for rental car providers to offer delivery to your nominated address when you book a rental car. However in Australia, major car rental companies — for example Avis, Budget, East Coast, Europcar, Hertz, and Thrifty — do not offer an option to have your rental car delivered. Instead they ask that you collect your rental car at their depot.
Tips to consider instead of having a rental car delivered
As major car hire providers in Australia don’t offer rental car delivery, here are some expert tips on alternative strategies you can use to reduce the inconvenience of not being able to have a rental car delivered to your home or hotel:
Use VroomVroomVroom’s search tool to find the closest rental depot to your location. Don’t forget, many major car rental providers have suburban depots as well as their inner city and airport locations.
Airport rental cars are a feature at all major Australian airports and most regional airports are also serviced by at least one car hire providers — if not most. As airports often have good public transport connections, this can make an airport collection a good option.
If you’re thinking of collecting your rental car at an airport, consider both on- and off-airport hire car depots as the latter, as well as being more affordable, may be more convenient for you to reach.
If you plan to use public transport to reach the rental depot, VroomVroomVroom lists depot addresses — making it easy to select one that’s close to public transport. Bear in mind how much luggage you have before opting for this approach.
Where there’s no convenient public transport — or you have a lot of luggage — a taxi or ride-share will be the easiest way to get to the depot.
Don’t forget to consider your arrangements for both collecting and returning your rental car to the depot. Sometimes, customers may only think about the collection and forget to plan for the return.
By using our search form and clicking on “Map View” you’ll be able to see the depots within up to a 10 km radius of your search.
Regardless of how you plan to get to the rental car depot, be sure to factor in sufficient time for you to get to the depot. Rental car providers typically start a rental period at a specific time, so if you book a car for 10:00, the provider expects you there at 10:00. If it will take you an hour to get to the depot by public transport, you should allow for this travel time when booking your car.
