If you’re planning on hiring a car in Roma and using it as a base for some countryside trips, then a rental 4WD is perhaps a more prudent choice than a conventional rental car such as a SUV, sedan or hatchback.

Queensland has strict laws regarding the use of a smartphone while driving and the fines are high. It is illegal to hold a mobile phone in your hand, or have it resting on any part of your body while driving, even if you are stopped in traffic.
In Australia, people drive on the left hand side of the road. It seems like a simple point, but if you’re not used to this, it can be an easy thing to forget — especially in moments of anxiety. Remember the cardinal rule: left is best.
In Queensland, the driver of a hire car and all passengers seven years and older must wear a seatbelt. It is the driver’s responsibility to make sure all passengers are wearing their seatbelt. Children under the age of seven must be in a properly fastened Australian Standard approved child restraint.

On hiring a car in Roma
Our data shows that Roma, along with other isolated cities in Australia, book out of rental cars during peak seasons (i.e., school holidays and major city events) because of the limited amount of rental cars available by providers in the area.
