The Djerriwarrh Festival (during November) is Melton Shire's largest community festival with fun and activities for the whole family. The Festival has a carnival atmosphere thus, making it a must to experience for people of all ages!
Hannah Watts Recreation Reserve
During her midwife and matron years in Melton's first hospital, Hannah helped deliver 400 children. And when she died (at age 89) in 1921, this Reserve was named in her honor.
The Hannah Watts Recreation Reserve is located in High St. and adjacent to Toolern Creek. In the Reserve's vicinity, you'll see plenty of birds among the river red gums, a walking track, a cycling trail, a playground, and facilities for picnics and barbecues. Toilet facilities are also available in the area.
The Toolern Creek Heritage Trail
The lovely Toolern Creek passes through a self-guided heritage trail which shows how Melton was in the past. It takes the former sites of the racecourse, the original town site, Pennyroyal Creek Station, and other establishments that will surely give you a beautiful picture of what Melton was.
The Willows Historical Park
The Willows Historical Park is located in Reserve Road on the east bank of Toolern Creek. The park accommodates Melton's oldest homestead (the front section of the park is the original homestead and it was perhaps built in the 1850s and the larger section of the park is believed to have dated from 1860s). The building has been lavishly ornamented with quoins, voussoirs, keystones, and chimneys with buttresses and dentils. The park is truly a beautiful place to see.
Melton Civic Center is a cultural venue that features live performances from local artists and theater groups. The venue is considered to be the central cultural spot in the city and it promotes Australian values connected to the performing arts. People visiting Melton may come and enjoy contemporary art here and grasp a side of the local image on heritage, as the plays render historical times, or on the area's beliefs and behaviors. The Center is opened throughout the entire year and stages special performances and festivities on holidays.
Tabcorp Park is a venue dedicated to harness horse racing, attracting numerous viewers to this magnificent and lavish sport. Its surface is enormous and it stands out in the city of Melton, as only the track covers a 1,000 meters line. Adding to this, the perimeter is filled with restaurants and hotels that also offer their guests conferences rooms and a gaming lounge, inaugurated in 2009. For visitors, this is a location that features the necessary entertainment to fill out the timing of your vacation or business trip.
