Driving tips on Kangaroo Island
If you are arriving via Adelaide Airport, you can book a car hire with us and pick up your vehicle at the airport. However, not all suppliers allow their vehicles to travel to Kangaroo Island. Only Thrifty, Europcar & Hertz allow their rental cars to travel on the ferry, strict conditions do apply so make sure to read the Terms and Conditions when you book a car rental.
Standard vehicles are permitted to travel to Kangaroo Island if collected from a corporate location (City or Airport). Customers will be required to sign a disclaimer when they collect the car. If you are travelling to Kangaroo Island you must obtain a written authority by having the Rental Service Agent note on the Rental Agreement (on pickup of the vehicle).
Avis and Budget do not allow vehicles from the Australian mainland to travel to Kangaroo Island however you have the option to rent a car and return it on the Island with Hertz from their depot at the Ferry Terminal.
Hertz is also available at the Kangaroo Island Airport. However, their rental cars are not allowed to leave the island. There are daily 30-minute flights from Adelaide Airport to Kingscote KI Airport so you can take the plane and just rent a car when you get there.
