Hervey Bay Historical Village & Museum
Address: 13 Zephyr St, Scarness QLD 4655
The Historical Village is much bigger than it looks from the front. There are over 2 ½ acres to wander around and we advise visitors to allow at least 2 hours to fully view everything. Allow more time on Sunday afternoons when they do their demonstrations. In 2006, 2007 and 2008, the museum won the “Heritage & Cultural Tourism” category of the Fraser Coast & South Burnett Tourism Awards and in 2009, they were inducted into the “Hall of Fame”. There are now 27 buildings housing 37 displays with over 12000 exhibits, some dating back to the 19th century. A new covered BBQ area is available for visitors to use including two electric BBQ's and hot water facilities. Tour groups are also welcome to use these facilities if they wish to organise a morning tea or lunch for their group. Blacksmith, Corn Shelling and Rope Making demonstrations are held every Sunday and whenever Adult or School groups visit. Their new Fire Station houses a 1932 restored Dennis Fire Engine and they also have a new Cobblers and Barbers Shops displays.
Freedom Whale Watch & Charters
Address: 17 Buccaneer Dr, Urangan QLD 4655
One of the most popular activities in Hervey Bay is whale watching. The watch from Freedom starts early in the morning as it departs from Sandy Strait Marina. The 58-foot catamaran gives tourists a chance to admire the humpback whales for hours. Enjoy 360 whale viewing on all three levels and there is also a water level viewing area. From the catamaran, you can also spot dingoes, schooling fish and sea birds. Freedom also treats their guests to a scrumptious tropical buffet lunch. Guests can also enjoy morning and afternoon tea paired with home baked treats and fruit and cheese platters.
Address: Charlton Esplanade, Torquay QLD 4655
The Esplanade is a 17 km pathway along the beach front spanning across several suburbs including Urangan, Shelly Beach, Scarness, Torquay, Point Vernon and Pialba. This is the perfect place to enjoy a bike ride featuring stops at restaurants, cafes and shops through Hervey Bay, admiring the scenery. The path is very good not only for biking, but also for walking or running, but the Esplanade tour ends by biking on the beach.
