Deemed as one of the biggest and most celebrated annual events on the Australian sporting calendar, the Australian Football League (AFL) attracts more than six million attendees per year. The league has a pre-season competition, also known as the "JLT Community Series", followed by a 23-round regular.

Every year, the "home-and-away" season runs from March until last Saturday of September or first Saturday of October (during the Australian winter). Then top eight teams play off in a four-round finals series, concluding in the AFL Grand Final, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Catch some of the best teams go head to head, including premiership awardees Richmond Tigers, Western Bulldogs, Hawthorn Hawks, Sydney Swans and Geelong Cats. Find out who will be the winning club of the AFL Grand Final; so make sure to book a car rental now before they are sold out!

How to get to Melbourne Cricket Ground

From Melbourne Airport: The quickest route is via M2, which approximately takes half an hour of driving to reach the venue. You can also take the M2 and Flemington Road route or Western Ring Road/M80 and M1 route.

From Melbourne CBD: It will only take around 15 minutes to reach MCG if you take State Route 30 or Collins Street. Another alternative route is via State Route 20.

Car parking

There are parking spaces at the sporting venue in Yarra Park and it costs around $10. Remember that street parking is limited so another option is parking at any of the high-rise buildings in CBD then just take a short walk.

There are several pedestrian bridges that connect to the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which makes it really accessible for AFL fans who parked their car at the CBD. Here are the pedestrian bridges: William Barak Bridge in Flinders Street, Rod Laver Arena footbridge and Melbourne Arena footbridge.

Road closures

Take note that they close Brunton Avenue 90 minutes before the start of an event and 60 minutes after the event finishes so make sure to arrive earlier if you plan to take this route.
