Grandpa's Guide to Renting a Car in Australia

Hello, my name is Grandpa Benjamin. I've been driving and renting cars in Australia for 65 years. I thought I'd share some of my eperience with you here. But first, it is feeding time. Ruby has made Pumpkin soup. Yum.

Which companies to choose?
Okay, I'm back. I'll start with explaining which companies you should rent from. There are only a few car hire companies in Australia that provides car rental to both holiday and business trips. Among those few, there are five companies that comprise the top of the car hire market. The top five car rental companies are Avis, Budget , Europcar, Hertz, and Thrifty. These companies provide a wide variety of rental cars to choose from. They also make sure that their vehicles are new and in excellent working conditions. And guess what, each of these rental companies can be found at the major airports and city locations. Therefore, there is no need to wait for a shuttle bus.

Where can I book?
The ideal way of looking for cheap yet very good vehicles in a faster way is through the internet. There are certain websites that offer easy and fast booking to car rentals and allows you access to car rental rate comparisons. And the ideal site is vroomvroomvroom.com.au which can help you look for the best car rental which is suited for you. You can easily compare different car rental rates and will surely help you choose the ideal rate for your budget.

Early bird catches the worm car rental
Many are booking their cars and some may be booking the same car that you want to book in the same place then, book immediately. In order to get good vehicles in a cheaper price, you should book early because the price is inversely proportional to the supply and demand of the car. It means that the more cars that are available, the cheaper are the rates.

I want to ride a kangaroo
Some people might think that because Australia is the home for kangaroos, you can actually rent and ride them. But no, you cannot rent kangaroos nor even ride them. Kangaroos, once threatened can definitely beat the crap out of you.  If you want to see kangaroos, there are animal parks that have kangaroos and there, you can watch them. So, if you don’t want to see stars around your head in broad daylight, get your hind kicked really hard that will sure leave a memorable mark, become airborne before you know it or, in a worst case scenario, lose your life, then leave the kangaroos alone.

International Drivers
Back to the car rentals, here is another tip which will be very beneficial for you. If you’re a foreigner, you can drive through Australia using your current license. But make sure that your license is in English.

Ruby is telling me to get off the typewriter so I need to go now. Happy road travels!
