Drivers Licences and Age QualificationsAll renters must be aged 21-75 years for standard vehicles at the commencement of the rental. For any driver be they the renter or an additional driver, aged 21 to 24 inclusive, an age surcharge of $22 per day applies. No surcharges apply to additional drivers aged 25 years and more. Thrifty recognises all current non-provisional and non-probationary Australian drivers licences and current overseas licences. The driver’s licence must be in English language with a photo and produced at the start of the rental. If a renter’s licence is not in English or not have a photo, an International Driving Permit will be required. Credit cards and Credit Card surchargeThrifty will require a deposit of between AUD$385 & AUD$1100 from clients upon collection of the vehicle to cover additional charges i.e. fuel, additional kilometres, and liability waiver. This deposit is to be paid by any internationally recognised credit card. NO CASH DEPOSIT WILL BE ACCEPTED. An imprint of the credit card, and the deposit, will be taken on pick up of the vehicle.Credit card must be in the name of the authorised renter. Baby SeatsBaby seats are available at most Thrifty locations at a cost of AUD$6.00 per day to a maximum of AUD$55 per rental, per seat.
Driving RestrictionsVehicles must not be used on any unsealed road (being a road not sealed with a hard material such as tar, bitumen or concrete) .No vehicle (including 4WDs) may be used on off road conditions. Off road conditions include but is not limited to fire trails, beaches, sand, tracks, fields, paddocks, creeks or river crossings. Damage to overhead, under body or damage caused by water is not covered by any damage liabilities. All costs would be at the renter’s own expense. Western Australia If vehicles are travelling interstate or into remote areas, prior written approval by Thrifty WA must be granted. Consideration must be given by the driver for their own safety and contactibility in the event of an accident or incident. Travelling into some areas of Western Australia require National Park Passes, these are available for sale from the Perth Tourist Centre. South Australia Travelling into some areas of the South Australia outback may involve the need for a Desert Pass Permit. Important Note: Thrifty do not offer any cover whilst vehicles are being loaded on or off of ferries, or whilst on the ferry. Customers need to be aware of this. They take vehicles on ferries at their own risk. All vehicles are permitted to travel to Kangaroo Island if collected from a corporate location only.
Far North Queensland Travel is permitted as far as Cooktown only via the inland road (Peninsula Development Road / Cooktown Development Road). Travel to Cooktown via the coastal road (Cape Tribulation Road) is not permitted; customers can only travel as far as Cape Tribulation. Fraser Island Thrifty allows selected 4WD’s to be driven on Fraser Island but only when hired from Thrifty Hervey Bay. Important Note: Thrifty do not offer any cover whilst vehicles are being loaded on or off of ferries, or whilst on the ferry. Customers need to be aware of this. They take vehicles on ferries at their own risk Tasmania Vehicles cannot be taken onto the Spirit of Tasmania ferry and into Tasmania. NT, Broome and Kununurra Access is denied in the following areas: Kakadu Region – Jim Jim and Twin Falls, all year round Arnhem Land – Access to Arnhem Land including Gurig/Cobourg National Park is denied subject to Thrifty’s approval and on presentation of permits obtained from the relevant authority for entry into/onto Aboriginal Land Litchfield Region Katherine Region – Central Arnhem Road to Gove beyond Bulman Kimberley Region – Purnululu National Park (Bungle, Bungles), Mitchell Plateau and Kalumburu. For Gibb River Road travel between November and April is subject to seasonal road conditions and access limited to large manual 4WDS only (FFMR, IFMR) Broome – Cable Beach or any other beach. The Gibb River Road is accessible to large manual 4WDs ONLY (FFMR, IFMR). ABSOLUTELY no passenger vehicles, IWARs, PFARs or LFMRs on this road at any time as it’s a rugged road. Vehicles access maybe restricted due to weather. Central Australia – Tanami Track, Gunbarrell Highway, Plenty/Donahue Highway, Canning Stock Route, Oodnadatta Track, Strzlecki Track, Birdsville Track only when travelling with another vehicle and with Thrifty’s consent and knowledge. Other Areas – The Gulf Track, Cape York Peninsular and Fraser Island (for a vehicle rented from NT) Aboriginal Permit Land – any entry to Aboriginal Land without a permit is illegal. Access to any land requiring a permit for entry is denied without Thrifty’s approval and entry permit must be provided to Thrifty prior to entry to such lands. Collision Damage Cover is not valid in the event of an unauthorised entry into Aboriginal Land or breach of permit regulations Larapinta and Namatjira Drive (Mereenie Loop Road) – only accessible with large manual 4WDs (FFMR, IFMR and XFMR). Any damage sustained to the vehicle whilst on these roads is subject to the standard damage liabilities of $5,500 for both a Multi Vehicle Accident and a Single Vehicle Accident. Any additional liability reducer purchased does not apply for travel on these roads. Road Closures Any road or gazetted track closed by any statutory authority in any region. Dusk to Dawn Any damage sustained to a rented vehicle as a result of a collision with an animal between the hours of dusk and dawn will not be covered by Thrifty’s damage liabilities.All damages and recovery costs will be the responsibility of the hirer. Snow Cover (June – Oct) Should you wish to take a Thrifty vehicle above the snowline, the following conditions apply: The definition of the Snowline is either: the entrance to the National Parks or wherever snow chains are required to be fitted and used or any road where snow or ice is present. Coverage is limited to sealed public roads or car parks. Cars, Buses and 4WD’s are permitted above the snow line however must purchase Snow Cover which is at $22 per day inc GST. This is in addition to the standard liability reduction available Vehicles booked on Vroomvroomvroom must remain on sealed bitumen roads. Traffic Infringements
