Thrifty Terms & Conditions

The below T&Cs (including prices and taxes) are provided by Thrifty and may change without notice to VroomVroomVroom.

This quote includes:

• G.S.T.
• Stamp duty
• All Thrifty vehicles have Standard Cover. Standard Cover is subject to conditions and exclusions. The Damage Recovery Fee is currently $3300* ($5500 for 4WDs from NT, Broome & Kununurra) including GST. In the case of a Single Vehicle Accident, the Single Vehicle Accident Fee of $2200* applies in addition to the Damage Recovery Fee. Protection can be purchased separately upon arrival to reduce the Damage Recover Fee (see below).
• Signified kilometre amount (generally unlimited, see below for extra km charge)
• Vehicle Registration
• One way fees if applicable
• Airport taxes and surcharges if applicable
• All vehicle fees related to the booking, eg. Vehicle drop fees, all recovery fees, premium location fees, corporate location fees wherever applicable.
• For any driver be they the renter or an additional driver, aged 21 to 24 inclusive, an age surcharge of $22* per day applies.

This quote will not include:

• Excess reduction from $27.00* per day. Please see our Excess Reduction Guide for further details.
• Effective 07/12/09, Thrifty will be introducing a Credit Card Fee of 1.5%. This fee will be applicable to all credit card types.
• Child Seats or booster seats (can be purchased after confirmation for $6.00* per seat, per day - max $55*)EXCEPT the following locations at $11 per day per seat: Ascot, Ballina City / Airport, Brendale, Byron Bay, Caloundra, Chinchilla, Cleveland, Coolangatta Airport, Coorparoo, Dalby, Goondiwindi, Ipswich, Kedron, Kingaroy, Lismore City / Airport, Logan, Maroochydore City / Airport, Morayfield, Noosa, Redcliffe, Rocklea, Stanthorpe, Surfers Paradise, Toowoomba, Yamba.
• Extra kilometre travel (if your rental is limited, the limit can not be extended, and each km will be charged at $0.25*).
• GPS $11.00/day* GPS are subject to availability and can not be guaranteed.
• Any extras signed up for upon arrival, eg. vehicle snow equipment.

* All extra add-ons will attract additional percentage taxes and surcharges.

Thrifty Excess Reduction Guide

VroomVroomVroom does not sell protection products or excess reduction packages, therefore any quotes/enquiries MUST be directed to Thrifty.

• Standard Liability $3300 (excluding taxes and local fee) Single Vehicle Accident (SVA) $2200 (excluding taxes and local fee) except Northern Territory, Broome and Kununurra, SVA which is $5500 (excluding taxes and local fee)
• Luxury 4WD and Specialty Vehicle Liability $5500 (excluding taxes and local fees)
• Premium Protection - from $27.00 (per day excluding local fees and surcharges). This package reduces your liability to $385 (excluding local fees and surcharges) or $1100 for specialty and luxury vehicles (excluding taxes and local fees)
• The Ultimate Protection option has been sold as part of the All Inclusive product or taken by the customer at time of collection the SVA fee is reduced to ZERO for metropolitan locations. SVA always applies to country and remote locations.

Drivers Licences and Age Qualifications

All renters must be aged 21 for standard vehicles at the commencement of the rental. For any driver be they the renter or an additional driver, aged 21 to 24 inclusive, an age surcharge of $22 per day applies. No surcharges apply to additional drivers aged 25 years and more.

Thrifty recognises all current non-provisional and non-probationary Australian drivers licences and current overseas licences. The driver's licence must be in English language with a photo and produced at the start of the rental. If a renter's licence is not in English or not have a photo, an International Driving Permit will be required.

Credit cards and Credit Card surcharge

Thrifty will require a deposit of between AUD$385 & AUD$1100 from clients upon collection of the vehicle to cover additional charges i.e. fuel, additional kilometres, and liability waiver.

This deposit is to be paid by any internationally recognised credit card. NO CASH DEPOSIT WILL BE ACCEPTED. An imprint of the credit card, and the deposit, will be taken on pick up of the vehicle.Credit card must be in the name of the authorised renter.

Effective 07 December 2009, Thrifty will be introducing a Credit Card Fee of 1.5%.

This fee will be applicable to all credit card types.

Contact Numbers

All booking requests must include a contact number. This is so Thrifty can provide a better service when they have a requirement to contact you regarding the booking. Some smaller airport locations are only staffed for flight arrivals, and Thrifty require flight details to be confirmed prior to arrival.

Baby Seats

Baby seats are available at most Thrifty locations at a cost of AUD$6.00 per day to a maximum of AUD$55 per rental, per seat.

Driving Restrictions

Vehicles must not be used on any unsealed road (being a road not sealed with a hard material such as tar, bitumen or concrete).

No vehicle (including 4WDs) may be used on off road conditions. Off road conditions include but is not limited to fire trails, beaches, sand, tracks, fields, paddocks, creeks or river crossings.

Damage to overhead, under body or damage caused by water is not covered by any damage liabilities. All costs would be at the renter’s own expense.

Western Australia

If vehicles are travelling interstate or into remote areas, prior written approval by Thrifty WA must be granted. Consideration must be given by the driver for their own safety and contactibility in the event of an accident or incident. Travelling into some areas of Western Australia require National Park Passes, these are available for sale from the Perth Tourist Centre.

South Australia

Travelling into some areas of the South Australia outback may involve the need for a Desert Pass Permit.

Important Note: Thrifty do not offer any cover whilst vehicles are being loaded on or off of ferries, or whilst on the ferry. Customers need to be aware of this. They take vehicles on ferries at their own risk.

All vehicles are permitted to travel to Kangaroo Island if collected from a corporate location only.

• Travel to Kangaroo Island must be advised at time of collection.
• Customers will be required to sign a disclaimer when they collect the car
• Mechanical failure on the island - there is one breakdown service and location on the island therefore response times are not guaranteed.
• Passenger vehicles are only allowed on sealed roads
• Please be advised that the vehicles are not covered on the ferry and customers are responsible for any damage occurred during this trip.
• Customers are to obtain written authority by having the Rental Service Agent note on the Rental Agreement at the pickup of the vehicle
• Vehicles can only be hired from Adelaide Airport, Adelaide City and Adelaide North for travel onto Kangaroo Island.
• Important Note: Thrifty do not offer any cover whilst vehicles are being loaded on or off of ferries, or whilst on the ferry. Customers need to be aware of this. They take vehicles on ferries at their own risk.

Far North Queensland

Travel is permitted as far as Cooktown only via the inland road (Peninsula Development Road / Cooktown Development Road). Travel to Cooktown via the

coastal road (Cape Tribulation Road) is not permitted; customers can only travel as far as Cape Tribulation.

Fraser Island

Thrifty allows selected 4WD’s to be driven on Fraser Island but only when hired from Thrifty Hervey Bay. An additional $550 security bond is collected at the start of the rental and will be refunded on completion of the rental, subject to the vehicle being returned without damage. A $100 cleaning fee will apply to all rentals taken to Fraser Island.
Exclusions: Undercarriage damage, roll over damage, submersion damage, reversing
damage, tyre (including rim) and windscreen damage.
Important Note: Thrifty do not offer any cover whilst vehicles are being loaded on or off of ferries, or whilst on the ferry. Customers need to be aware of this. They take vehicles on ferries at their own risk

Tasmania

Vehicles cannot be taken onto the Spirit of Tasmania ferry and into Tasmania.

NT, Broome and Kununurra

There are many areas and sites that Thrifty NT will not allow access to and where different damage liability conditions apply. Listed below are the areas where these vehicle types MUST NOT be driven at any time without Thrifty NT's written permission and agreement.

Should you decide to enter these areas Thrifty NT WILL NOT provide any damage liability coverage. Any damage to the vehicle, either mechanical or panel, sustained in these areas or as a result of being in these areas will be at the HIRER'S EXPENSE as will any costs relating to vehicle recovery.

Thrifty reserves the right to deny access to some areas due to road conditions without notice.

Access is denied as per above to the areas listed within the following regions:

Kakadu Region Jim Jim and Twin Falls – all year.

Arnhem Land - Access to Arnhem Land including Gurig/Cobourg National Park is denied subject to Thrifty's approval and on presentation of permits obtained from the relevant authority for entry to Aboriginal Land.

Litchfield Region

Katherine Region - Central Arnhem Road to Gove beyond Bulman.

Kimberley Region - Mitchell Plateau and Kalumburu.

Gibb River Road travel between November and April is subject to seasonal road conditions and access limited to Large Manual 4WD's only (LRMR and IFMR)

Broome - Cable Beach

Central Australia - Tanami Track, Gunbarrell Highway, Plenty/Donahue Highway, Canning Stock Route, Oodnadatta Track, Strzlecki Track, Birdsville Track only when travelling with another vehicle and with Thrifty's consent and knowledge.

Other Areas The Gulf Track, Cape York Peninsular, Fraser Island (for a vehicle rented from NT) Larapinta and Namatjira Drive (Mereenie Loop Road & & Gibb River Road) - Any damage sustained to the vehicle whilst on these roads is subject to the standard damage liabilities of $5,500 for multi vehicle accident and $7,700 for a single vehicle accident. Any additional liability reducer purchased does not apply for travel on these roads.

Aboriginal Permit Land – any entry to Aboriginal Land without a permit is illegal. Access to any land requiring a permit for entry is denied without Thrifty’s approval and entry permit must be provided to Thrifty prior to entry to such lands. Collision Damage Cover is not valid in the event of an unauthorised entry into Aboriginal Land or breach of permit regulations

Road Closures

Any road or gazetted track closed by any statutory authority in any region.

Dusk to Dawn

Any damage sustained to a rented vehicle as a result of a collision with an animal between the hours of dusk and dawn will not be covered by Thrifty's damage liabilities.All damages and recovery costs will be the responsibility of the hirer.

Snow Cover (June – Oct)

Cars, Buses and 4WD's are permitted above the snow line however Snow Cover must be purchased at $22 per day inc. GST. This is in addition to the standard loss or damage cover available.

The definition of the Snowline is either (a) the entrance to the National Parks or (b) wherever snow chains are required to be fitted and used or any road where snow or ice is present.

Coverage is limited to sealed public roads or car parks. Thrifty do not hire show chains or roof racks.

Any damage or loss caused to the vehicle through the use of snow chains and roof racks will not be covered.

Vehicles booked on Vroomvroomvroom must remain on sealed bitumen roads.

Traffic Infringements and Tollways

New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland all have toll roads. Payment cannot be made to Thrifty for toll charges in NSW, Eastlink in VIC and QLD. For further information please visit the following websites:

Victoria – A linktoll can be pre-purchased through Thrifty at $12.00 inc. GST per calendar day for travel on the Melbourne Citylink. Alternatively you can visit www.citylink.com.au or phone 13 26 29 to organise a pass.
For travel on the Eastlink, passes must be organised direct through www.breeze.com.au or phone 13 54 66.

Queensland – www.govia.com.au or phone 1300 55 90 40.

The renter is responsible for any / all toll and traffic infringements incurred during the course of their rental. If incurred, Thrifty will transfer these infringements into the name of the renter who then becomes responsible nominating and transferring the responsibility to the driver of the vehicle at the time of the infringement or for paying the fine.
In addition a $35.00 inc. GST administration fee is payable for each toll infringement transfer or a $50.00 inc. GST administration fee for each speeding or parking infringement transfer.

This administration fee will be charged to the renters’ credit card and a notification letter sent.

USE OF VEHICLE

1. You agree that the following persons must not drive the Vehicle (unless authorised by Thrifty in writing):

• a person who is not identified under "Hirer and Driver Information" in the RA or in a Credit Card Authority;
• a person who does not hold a current unrestricted motor vehicle driver's licence for the particular class of Vehicle hired (learner permits and provisional licences are not acceptable);
• a person whose breath or blood alcohol concentration exceeds the maximum lawful concentration or who is intoxicated or who is under the infl uence of any drug, toxic, or illegal substance;
• a person who has given Us or for whom You have given Thrifty a false name, age, address or driver's licence details;
• a person, whose driver's licence has been cancelled, endorsed or suspended within the last three years; or
• a person who is under the age of (21) years.

2. You agree that the Vehicle must not be used by You or by any Authorised Driver (unless authorised by Thrifty in writing):

• if the Place of Hire is in NSW, QLD, VIC or SA the Vehicle must not be used in WA, NT or TAS;
• if the Place of Hire is in WA, NT or TAS the Vehicle must not be used out of the state or territory of hire.
• (except where Snowpak coverage is purchased) above the snow line being either the entrance to national parks in which snow falls or areas in which snow chains are required to be fitted (by the relevant authority);
• on any unsealed road (being a road not sealed with a hard material such as tar, bitumen or concrete) unless the Vehicle is a 4WD in which case it may also be used on graded unsealed roads. No Vehicle (including 4WDs) may be used on off road conditions. Off road conditions include but are not limited to fire trails, beaches, sand, tracks, fields or paddocks;
• to carry persons for hire or reward, to carry any inflammable, explosive or corrosive materials or to carry any animal or pet;
• to propel or tow any vehicle (not being a trailer), or to propel or tow any trailer with a load in excess of the capacity of the trailer, towing mechanism or Vehicle;
• to carry any greater load, number or persons or for use in a manner or for a purpose for which the Vehicle was not designed and constructed, or to carry any greater number of persons than the Vehicle has seat belts (particularly as seat belts must be worn by all occupants of the Vehicle);
• for racing, pacemaking, reliability trials or hill climbing, or being tested in preparation for those purposes;
• in contravention of any criminal legislation, any legislation involving a penalty, or for any illegal purpose whatsoever;
• in contravention specific call of any road safety laws in force from time to time where the Vehicle is being driven; or
• if We have directed You or any Authorised Driver not to drive the Vehicle or if the Vehicle is damaged or unsafe;

3. You must keep the Vehicle locked at all times whilst it is unattended.

Loss or Damage Cover

The following is a general overview of the loss and damage cover available to a driver of a Thrifty vehicle. It is subject to exclusions and limitations - for full conditions; please refer to Thrifty’s standard terms and conditions on the website at http://www.thrifty.com.au/terms.

Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTP)

All vehicles registered in Australia have Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTP), which is legislated within each respective state or territory. CTP insurance indemnifies the negligent driver for all third party persons or passengers injured during the accident. CTP cover is included in the daily rate charged by Thrifty. The Claims Department does not process claims for CTP which would be lodged with the CTP insurer. CTP insurance DOES NOT provide cover for injuries sustained by the driver at fault. CTP insurance also DOES NOT provide cover for damage to property or motor vehicles.

Liability Fee

A liability fee is payable for ANY loss or damage regardless of cause/fault (i.e. whether it results from accident damage, hail damage, theft etc). The liability fee is payable for EACH SEPARATE incident of damage (e.g. if a vehicle sustains accident damage and hail damage within the one rental period, then 2 liability fees will apply).The amount of the liability fee is stated on the first page of the rental agreement..

There are two (2) types of liability fees:
(1) Damage Recovery Fee (DR Fee)
(2) Single Vehicle Accident Fee (SVA Fee)

Damage Recovery Fee

The Damage Recovery Fee will apply when there is any damage to the motor vehicle or another motor vehicle (and all relevant details of the other motor vehicle (3rd party) have been obtained).

Single Vehicle Accident

A Single Vehicle Accident (SVA) is an incident in which (a) no other motor vehicle is involved (e.g. rollovers, collisions with animals, trees, pedestrians etc) (b) another motor vehicle is involved but: (i) that other motor vehicle or it's driver has not been identified to Us; or (ii) at the time of the incident the Vehicle was moving in reverse and that other motor vehicle was stationery; or (iii) at the time of the incident that other vehicle was parked.

Single Vehicle Accident Liability Fee

The single vehicle accident liability fee is stated on the first page of the rental agreement. In addition a Premium Location Surcharge may also apply. The Single Vehicle Accident Liability Fee is payable in addition to the Damage Recovery Fee.

Standard Cover “SC”

All Thrifty vehicles have Standard Cover, which indemnifies the Thrifty Hirer and Authorised Driver for damage caused to the Thrifty vehicle and third party property. Tyre and windscreen damage is not included. Standard Cover is subject to conditions and exclusions. The hirer
ticks a box accepting this cover in the Rental Agreement.

Standard Cover Fee

Standard Cover is included in the daily rate.

(Standard Cover) Damage Recovery Fee

The Damage Recovery Fee is currently $3300* ($5500 for 4WDs from NT, Broome & Kununurra) including GST. In addition a Premium Location Surcharge may also apply.

Single Vehicle Accident Fee

In the case of a Single Vehicle Accident, the Single Vehicle Accident Fee of $2200* including GST applies in addition to the Damage Recovery Fee.

Premium Protection “PP”

The hirer must either select the package which includes this cover or ticks a box accepting this additional cover on the rental agreement and pays the appropriate fee for the cover to take effect. Tyre and windscreen damage is not included (and Standard Cover is included in PP).

Premium Protection Fee

Currently, the Premium Protection Fee is $27.00 per day including GST.

(Premium Protection) Damage Recovery Fee

Premium Protection reduces the Damage Recovery Fee from $3300 to $385* including GST. In addition a Premium Location Surcharge may also apply.

Single Vehicle Liability Fee

In the case of a Single Vehicle Accident, the Single Vehicle Accident Fee of $2200* including
GST applies in addition to the Damage Recovery Fee.

Ultimate Protection “UP”

The hirer must either select the package which includes this cover or ticks a box accepting this additional cover on the rental agreement and pays the appropriate fee for the cover to take effect. The hirer will be provided Standard Cover. In addition:

• Damage Recovery Fee and the Single Vehicle Accident Fee will be NIL; and
• Tyre and windscreen damage is covered when the damage is accidental.

Ultimate Protection Fee

Currently the Ultimate Protection Fee is $33.00 per day including GST. NB - If a hirer breaches Thrifty's standard terms and conditions, they may not be covered by Standard Cover, Premium Protection or Ultimate Protection and will be liable for all damages incurred. *The amount of DR Fees and SVA Fees may vary between locations and for types of vehicles and may change from time to time.
