South Yarra City is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria 4 kilometers east of Melbourne central business district. At the 2006 census, South Yarra City had a population of 17.992 residents. Initially, South Yarra City was inhabited by the Wurundjeri tribe of the Aboriginal Nation, then in the late 19th century it was populated by the European settlers. It soon became popular with the wealthy citizens of Melbourne, as a retreat from the town. The suburb is characterized by a mix of industrial, commercial and residential areas, which makes it great for a short holiday or a weekend getaway.
