Katherine City is a little town situated 320 km south east of Darwin in the North Australian territory. According to the 2006 census, the number of inhabitants in Katherine City reached 5849. The main occupation of the people in Katherine City is agriculture, due to the fertile lands found here. In the period of the Gold Rush, the town was quite known for its gold mines, but it lessened after the mine shafts were closed. Though it is a small town, Katherine City has a lot of wonderful landscapes and beautiful surroundings to offer to those who come here. Nitmiluk National Park is one of the most relaxing park from Katherine City. The park houses a series of gorges that can be explored either by foot or by canoe. During the dry season the gorges become disjointed, as the level of the river drops. It is a unique experience that must not be missed.

Edith Falls is located in Nitmiluk National Park and is represented by a series of waterfalls. These falls are part of the Edith river and tourists can climb up to the top as to get a better view of the waterfall. The view is spectacular and you can see the whole surroundings.

Katherine City Hot Springs is a great place where you can enjoy an outdoor picnic, a traditional barbecue or just a simple walk. The Hot Springs also provide swimming facilities and a monsoon forest, where you can sit back and have a relaxing afternoon.
