A fine day to everyone! Your favorite traveling Grandpa is here again for another adventurous trip! We will be visiting Coburg.

Coburg is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is about 8 kilometers north from Melbournes’ central business district. It has a population of approximately 23, 772. It is bounded by the Gaffney Street and Murray Road to the north, by the Elizabeth Street and Merri Creek to the east, by the Moreland Road to the south, and by the Melville Road, Devon Avenue, Sussex Street, and West Street to the west.

Coburg has many attractions for its visitors to discover! Some of them are:

1. The Al Alamy

For food enthusiasts, Al Alamy is waiting for you!

Al Alamy is an Arabic term that when translated to English means “world of foods”.

Al Alamy is place where you and your family can enjoy mouth-watering food. It is located in 51 Waterfield St., Coburg. It is not only a café but a deli and grocery as well. So if you’re appetite is craving for a traditional Labanese meal, Al Alamy is the place for you. There is also an option to create your own pizza! What’s more delicious than eating food that excellently matches your tastes!

2. The Merri Creek

Merri Creek is a waterway that flows through the northern suburbs of Melbourne. The junction of the creek and the river was traditionally the location for large gatherings of the Wurundieri people.

Before, the creek has experience degradation in its native vegetation because it was the site of heavy industrial use throughout much of the 20th century. Now, native vegetation has been regenerated and some of its native wildlife such as Kookaburras, Kingfishers, Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoos, Echidnas, frogs, and platypuses has returned to the creek.

3. The HM Prison Pentridge

The HM Prison Pentridge, which has recently been redeveloped into a housing estate, is Coburg’s most famous landmarks.

HM Prison Pentridge was an Australian prison built in 1850 in Coburg, Victoria. The first prisoners arrived in 1851 and the prison was officially closed on May 1, 1997. The Pentridge’s grounds were originally landscaped by a famous landscape-gardener, Hugh Linaker. And since the decommissioning, the prison has been partly demolished to make way for housing development.

The HM Prison Pentridge was used as locations for movies such as the 1994 Australian film “Everynight”, the 2000 Andrew Dominik film “Chopper”, and many more. The front gate showing the “HM Prison Pentridge” sign was also featured on the cover of the Australian band Airbourne’s debut album Runnin’ Wind.
