Grandpa’s Guide to Driving in South Yarra
Going to new places and meeting new people is another way of growing up and healing. I decided that I want to be free, enjoy, and at the same time, have peace of mind. I ended up having a week-long vacation in South Yarra and after a few hours of arriving there, I felt exalted!
South Yarra is a suburb in Melbourne, Australia and about 4 kilometers southeast from Melbourne’s central business district. With a population of 17, 992, South Yarra is included in the Local Government Area of Stonning and Melbourne.
The main shopping region of South Yarra runs along Toorak Road and Chapel Street. These two streets are focused on trendy shopping, restaurants, café culture, and nightclubs! And here’s what: the area of South Yarra centered along Commercial Road is one of Melbourne’s gay villages! South Yarra is the place to go if you want to be free of inhibitions! You know what I mean. And South Yarra is also home to some of Melbourne’s most prominent residential addresses!
South Yarra has quite a few local attractions. And the top on the list is the Chapel Street.
1. Chapel Street
Chapel Street is the best place to visit in South Yarra! It is Melbourne’s shopping, dining, and entertainment precinct! With myriads shops varying from exclusive fashion designers to old fashion pawn-brokers, Chapel Street has everything for everybody!
The major landmark in Chapel Street is The Jam Factory —factories converted into a shopping centre and into cinemas!
2. The Prahran Market
South Yarra also boasts the Prahran Market, which is one of the premier fresh food markets in Melbourne, Australia! And it has existed for over 125 years!
The market offers a variety of stalls and shops offering fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, deli foods, and cafes. Being known as “the food lover’s market”, Prahran Market is the place to find even those hard to get specialties such as heritage varieties of fruits and vegetables, unusual poultry, seafood, and exotic cheeses!
And here’s what: Prahran Market is the ONLY market in Melbourne that has a Market Square where people (adults and kids alike) can enjoy performances, cafes, and children’s playground!
3. The Como Historic House and Garden
Situated at above the Yarra River is the haven of Melbourne’s finest gardens!
Como Historic House and Garden an attraction with an inspiring historic mansion and an impressive collection of antique furniture! The whole setting depicts the classy life-style of its former owners which are one of Australia’s wealthiest pioneer families!
Surviving for 160 years and counting, Como reveals the life and times of Melbourne aristocracy and offers a glimpse of the transformation of the city through the Gold Rush Era, a Depression, and two World Wars!
