Grandpa’s Guide to Driving in Sale

When we hear the word “sale”, we usually refer that term to reduced prices of our favorite goods in the market. Today, “Sale” will definitely have a new meaning! Sale does not only refer to prices. It also refers to an ideal holiday destination!

Sale is a regional city in Victoria, Australia, in the Shire of Wellington. Sale has a population of about 13, 335 and is expected that will soon bloat up to 14,000.

It is located roughly between the Gippsland centres of Traralgon and Bairnsdale, west of the extensive Gippsland Lakes network. The region became a river port in 1890 due to the construction of a man-made canal that links the town centre with the Gippsland Lakes. Later, it was redeveloped with extensive berthing facilities, fishing platform, boat ramp, a boardwalk, and BBQ facilitites.

Sale has a charming commercial centre which extends along Raymond Street to Cunninghame Street, part of which is a pedestrian mall that is dominated by a large clock tower.

Sale also has attractions and activities that cater visitors from all over the world.

1. Port of Sale

The Port of Sale is the only inland port in Victoria. It stretches to 2.5 kilometers along the Sale Canal and it links the town to the Thompson River. It soon became a busy port plying the 400 square kilometers of waterways that comprise the beautiful Gippsland Lake System.
