Grandpa’s Guide to Driving in Prahran
Hello dear readers! I've been dying to ask..are you into something special?Do you have a knack for something more than the ordinary? If you are, then here’s an extraordinary place for you! I’ve been to many places but I’ve never experienced anything like Prahran!
Prahran is a suburb in Melbourne, Australia, and is colloquially knows as “Pran”. It is about 5 kilometers southeast from Melbourne’s central business district and has a population of about 10, 651. Prahran’s Local Government Area is the City of Stonnington. It is a part of Melbourne that has many shops, restaurants, and cafes. And the area of Prahran centered along Commercial Road is considered as one of Melbourne’s “gay villages”.
Due to the many shops and attractions, I have here prepared a short list of the places and attractions that you must see once you visit Prahran.
1. The Prahran ArcadeThe Prahran Arcade, opened in July 1890, was designed by the local architect, George McMullen, and constructed by James McMullen for Elizabeth Delaney.
Prahran Arcade is a two and three storey building which was originally comprised of 29 ground floor shops and a hotel complete with 30 bedrooms while a café, baths, and billiard rooms comprise the upper floors.
The Prahran Arcade is significant because of its architectural and aesthetic beauty. It also shows the Victorian Second Empire architectural style applied to a suburban commercial building! The application of the architectural style to the Arcade is unusual because those styles are usually applied to more free-standing structures such as the Town Hall and Shamrock Hotel in Bendigo, and the former Records Office in Queen Street, Melbourne.
2. The Revolver UpstairsAre you the person who likes to chill at night? Then, here’s the Revolver Upstairs!
The Revolver Upstairs is a rough, cultural, clubby house that hosts regular entertainment from international acts and DJs to exhibitions and trivia nights! And to add more mystery to the place’s ambience, old-style lamps illuminate the poster-clad walls, while the arty clientele schmooze in retro sofas.
Curious about Prahran? Then book a car with Prahran Car Rental and be ready to set your foot on one of the coolest places ever!
