Grandpa’s Guide to Driving in Geelong
Good day my friends! Your favorite Grandpa is back and ready to give you interesting juices about the city of Geelong or locally known as the “City by the bay”.
Geelong, located on Corio Bay, is the second largest city in Victoria and the fifth most populated non-capital city in the whole of Australia! Geelong is also within a short drive from popular beach-front commnunites on the Bellarine Peninsula. Elegant architecture, vibrant gardens and parks, and the scenery of Corio Bay depict what the locals mean when they call Geelong, the “City by the bay”.
The city has a vast commercial centre that offers guests to explore beach-front attractions and a number of costal walks.
By the way, first things first. Need a car for the trip? Visit Geelong Car Rental and book an excellent quality car in a very affordable price!
And more of Geelong’s attractions are:
1. The Ford Discovery CentreIdeal for car enthusiasts, the Ford Discovery Centre is waiting for you in Geelong! (It has two floors and models of Australian Ford cars, a theatre, and some car-related games and activities.)
An interactive automobile museum operated by Ford Heritage Ltd to present and preserve the heritage of the Ford Company in Australia. Here, you’ll experience Ford’s Australian history in an entertaining and educational environment
But the Ford Discovery Centre is more than a car museum: you’ll see a showcase of automotive technology and a “behind the scenes” look at how cars are made!
2. The Geelong GalleryThe Geelong Gallery contains works from the permanent collection as well as a vibrant program of special exhibitions.
It was established in 1896 and since then, it has amassed an outstanding collection of 19th and 20th century English porcelain, British art pottery, colonial Australian silver, as well as contemporary Australian paintings, prints, sculpture, and ceramics. But the gallery’s collection mainly focuses on the early images of the Geelong’s region.
In the gallery, you’ll also see a superb collection that includes the works of national significance such as Eugene von Guerard’s “View of Geelong” (1856) and Frederick McCubbin’s “A bush burial” (1890).
3. The National Wool MuseumThe National Wool Museum is another of Geelong’s top tourist attractions.
In visiting the National Wool Museum, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported back in time because you’ll see the timeless Australian history of wool, combined with stimulating contemporary exhibitions, presented in a historic bluestone wool store.
The Museum has 4 galleries, a renowed woolen clothing, gift and souvenir shops, and an excellent restaurant. You’ll definitely find out that in Geelong, there’s always something different to explore!
Ah yes. Geelong, the place to be!
