Grandpa’s Guide to Driving in Echuca

A steamy day to you my friends. Why steamy? Well today, we’ll be touring Echuca.

The town of Echuca, with a population of 12, 385, is located on the banks of the Murray River in Victoria, Australia. Echuca has a twin town located on the northern side of the river in New South Wales.

Echuca is the largest settlement in the Shire of Campaspe and at the same time it is its administrative centre.
Echuca is one of Victoria’s oldest river towns and is an ideal place to enjoy a wonderful holiday. Being located near Murray River, Echuca is a wonderful place for activities such as swimming, cruising, and waterskiing.

Check out this short list:

1. The Paddlesteamer Canberra

Built in 1912 in Goolwa South Australia, the Paddlesteamer Canberra offers one hour cruises on the Murray River. Here's what made my introduction above;for all you steam enthusiasts: the Paddle steamer is powered by a 1908 steam engine!

In this cruise, children will surely enjoy the experience to steer the vessel and will receive an official captain certificate! And its not just about the experience in steering the vessel, you’ll also have a little glimpse of how was cruising in River Murray in the past.

2. The Billabong Ranch

Another of the many attractions in Echuca, the Billabong Ranch provides many entertaining activities for all ages!

In the Ranch, you can enjoy horse trail rides, extreme off road buggies, rock climbing, indoor mini golf, pony rides, and many more! The Ranch will surely make you stay for a few days!

3. The Museum of the Echuca Historical Society

(The Museum tells the story of Australia’s paddle boat capital and largest inland port. In the museum, you’ll see the P. S. Adelaide which is the World’s oldest, wooden-hulled, working paddle steamer!)

Echuca Historical Society features original Murray River charts, riverboat photographs, Hopwood’s famous iron pitch pot, photographs of local identities and scenes, reminders of Chinese population in the area, and sawmilling.

They also have the Revirine Herald (1863) on microfilm, the Minute Books of the Echuca Borugh Council, the Echuca cemetery records for the years 1860 to 1989, records relating to the many businesses operating in Echuca such as saw mills, foundries, and flourmills, and many more! (These records will truly be helpful for researchers.)

Ah yes. Echuca is the perfect place to visit for a relaxing and pleasant vacation! By the way, need a car for the trip? Log on to Echuca Car Rental —the most excellent site to book car rentals. They don’t just have excellent customer service, they also has the best car rentals deals waiting for its clients! So what else could be more exciting than to visit Echuca with excellent wheels!
