Grandpa’s Guide to Driving in Naracoorte

G’day, mates! You know, my days have been getting better and better, ever since I started this guide. People have been sending over stories about how I helped turned a what-could-have-been-chaotic getaway into their dream vacation. I love your stories, they keep me motivated to keep writing. So keep them coming.

This time I’m doing a special on a town very popular in the 1850s because it was a service town for people involved in the Victorian Gold Rush. This town is none other than Naracoorte, the ‘place of running water’. You can find it in the Limestone Coast region, South Australia. Naracoorte’s about 336 kilometres south-east of the capital, Adelaide.

There’s a reason why it was so popular with the people back in the 1850s. It’s the same reason why people still flock to this town in this day and age. Naracoorte is packed with attractions. There’s so much to see and so much to do! It can make your head spin just trying to choose from your many options.

Lucky for you, I’m here to narrow that list down.

But before we move onto that, let’s handle all your transportation worries, eh? The only way to truly enjoy your road-trip around Naracoorte is that if you drive around in your very own car rental. That’s security, safety and style, all in one vehicle! So don’t you wait, hurry up and bag the best car rental deals for you! Just click on www.vroomvroomvroom.com.au and get yourself sorted.

Now, here are the top places of interest in Naracoorte:

1. Bool Lagoon Game Reserve and Hacks Lagoon Conservation Park

For your first stop, check out the wetlands and wildlife of Bool Lagoon Game Reserve and Hacks Conservation Park. Get to experience one of the biggest and most diverse freshwater habitats in Southern Australia. Take a walk on the specially developed boardwalks and get to see Bool Lagoon’s wildlife up close and personal. Or get cosy in one of their bird hides and watch with stealth as their rare and endangered bird species fly around.

2. Naracoorte Art Gallery

Your second destination will cater to your artistic tastes. Found in a historically important two-storey building is the Naracoorte Art Gallery. This place was put up as a regional art gallery and house Naracoorte’s Community Art Collection. It’s quite a worldly experience viewing over 60 etchings by John Goodchild (a famous engraver), an Aboriginal print collection and loads more oils, prints and watercolours. What a way to be wowed by the local talent, eh?

3. Naracoorte Caves National Park

Are you the type of person who just loves it when your breath gets taken away? Well, your final destination is just the perfect place that will render you speechless! Naracoorte Caves National Park and its fossil have earned a spot on the World Heritage list as South Australia’s only listed attraction. Naracoorte Caves National Park is proud to have fossils of giant marsupials and a awesome display of stalgamites and stalactites. Truly the kind of wonder you’d want to top off your Naracoorte experience.

So that’s the crème de la crème of Naracoorte! Hope you make the most out of your trip! Remember to have massive amounts of fun! Be awed by what Naracoorte has to offer. I’m glad to have helped.

Cheers!

-Grandpa Benjamin
