Grandpa’s Guide to Driving in Caloundra

A warm evening to my avid readers! I had a very sleepy day (we went out last night). *laughing* Age doesn’t matter when it comes to having fun! Because I almost slept the whole day, I’m not yet feeling a bit sleepy. And I’m in the mood of writing about one of my many travel escapades! A few years ago, I visited a beautiful place in the Sunshine Coast of South East Queensland Caloundra.

Caloundra is located at the southernmost area on the Sunshine Coast in South East Queensland Australia. In local Aboriginal dialect, Caloundra is known as “Kalowendah” or “The Place of Beech Trees”.

Caloundra is about an hour’s drive from the north of Brisbane’s Central Business District, and the domestic and international air terminals of Brisbane Airport. Depending on traffic conditions, it will take around 30 minutes from Sunshine Coast Airport to reach Caloundra. It is also accessible from the Landsborough Railway Station and the Caloundra bus station. But if you’re not in the mood to arrive there by train or by bus, well, why not book a car from Caloundra Car Rental and you’ll surely enjoy a very personal trip.

And some of the wonderful places that one should not miss in Caloundra are:

1. The Caloundra Coastal Walk
Located in Golden Beach, Caloundra, the walk is about 25 kilometers along the most breathtaking shorelines the eyes could ever absorb! It passes through beaches such as the Bulcock Beach, Kings Beach, and the sandy beahcs of Kawana to Mooloolaba!

Aside from the seascape, along the way, you can also visit historical sites such as the Military Jetty used for military operations during World War II, and the Kings Beach Bathing Pavilion (constructed in 1937). The headland area of he walk follows a trail of plaques that give honor to the people who died in the war. You should also watch out for the wreck of the SS Dicky that ran aground the Dicky Beach in 1893 due to a cyclone.

2. Caloundra Cruise in Pelican Waters

Caloundra Cruise is one of the many popular activities and attractions on the waterways, suitable and enjoyable for all ages! In the Cruise, you’ll have the chance to see fantastic views from the Caloundra Heads to Moreton Island, Bribie Island National Park and the “Blue Hole” —all from a specially designed ferry!

3. The Caloundra Regional Art Gallery

The Caloundra Regional Gallery is located in the converted 1970s former library building Fecility House, Caloundra. The building is part of a civic and cultural precinct located in the central Caloundra near the Caloundra Civic Cultural Centre, the Council Administration Building, and the Caloundra City Library.

Caloundra Art Gallery showcases its visual collection through Gallery curated shows and touring exhibitions. The Gallery is a permanent regional art gallery which provides learning opportunities for the economic, social, and cultural enhancement of their community.

I think that’s about my adventure in Caloundra. And speaking of adventures, hmm, I think that I would like to enjoy another night out soon. =)
