Grandpa's Guide To Renting a Car in Toowoomba
Gramps' back. I arranged my books in the shelves and now, I’m having a backache. Ouch.

Time for me to sit back and relax. I’ll let my fingers do the work for now.
Our destination for the day is the City of Toowoomba.
Toowoomba, also known as “The Garden City”, is a city in South East Queensland. It is located 127 kilometers west of Queensland's capital city, Brisbane. It is Australia’s second largest inland city and at the same time, the largest non-capital inland city. It has a population of approximately 128, 600.
Being the regional centre for business and government services, Toowoomba has a lot to offer to its visitors.
Wait. In order to do some sightseeing and destination-hopping faster, go to vroomvroomvroom.com.au and rent a nice car in a budget-friendly price. I assure you, you will not be disappointed.
There are a lot of “must see” in Toowoomba. And some of them will surely make it clear that the term “Garden City” is really appropriate for it.
1. The Witness Annual Flower Festival.Toowoomba is nationally renowned for its annual Flower Festival in September.
Many of the city’s major parks and gardens are especially prepared for the Festival. It enjoys four distinct seasons and the rich volcanic soil in the region helps maintain the 150 public parks that are scattered across the city.
The Festival is not just about a Parade with flower-themed floats, it also includes a prominent Home Garden Competition where people are allowed to visit participating homes and gardens for inspections. A popular way of arriving at the Festival from Brisbane is on specially chartered retired steam or diesel train that will make you feel the way of traveling to Toowoomba in the 19th century.
2. Have a walk through Mort Estate.Take off those seatbelts and have a leisure walk through Toowoomba’s oldest subdivision.
Mort Estate was established in 1862 and its intriguing history and architecture can be seen and admired through a self-guided walk in the precinct.
The pleasant walk starts and finishes at Toowoomba's historic Railway Station. Follow the trail and you will se historic sites along Taylor Street, Boulton Terrace, Norwood Street and Mort Streets.

3. Be inquisitive and captivated in awe with the historic architectures along Russell Street.
Russell Street will lead you to landmarks that depict excellent historic architecture which dates back to the 1860’s. The trail starts at the Railway Station on Railway Street. It continues west to Kensington Street and then returns east to the fascinating shop fronts in the city centre.
4. Enjoy the scenery in the Koonin Lookout via Crows Nest Falls. In Crows Nest National Park, Crows Nest Falls plummets 25 meters into Crows Nest Creek.
Beyond Crows Nest Falls lookout, the Koonin lookout track curves away from Crows Nest Creek through an open forest. Here, you are rewarded by a spectacular view of a deep gorge locally known as the Valley of Diamonds.
“Koorin” is the Aboriginal word for hoop pine. And hoop pine can be found beside the creek which is 120 meters below the lookout.
Now, you can enjoy the view, listen for the bell-like call of thee spotted pardalote from the valley below and absorb the beauty of nature’s wonders.
5. Have a picnic and enjoy the view in Picnic Point Lookout and ParklandPicnic Point is a Toowoomba icon. It is a beautifully landscaped parkland with playgrounds, barbecue and picnic facilities and magnificent lookouts over the city and the Lockyer Valley.
Picnic Point is considered as one of the best places where you can appreciate Toowoomba’s location ― on the top edge of the Great Dividing Range.
Availability of large parking space, picnic benches, on-site café and restaurant, walking tracks and beautiful views, visitors will surely make the most out of this location.
Picnic Point's landscaped gardens are a beautiful sight and a stroll around the area will reveal waterfalls, rotundas and quiet grassy seclusions. Its playground facilities are also fantastic and can be enjoyed under the shade of the giant Bunya Trees.
Once again, get off that car and enjoy long walking tracks that lead down the range or even all the way to the Table Top Mountain.
My back is feeling better now. I think I’ll resume to work and I’ll get back to typing later.
Have fun in Toowoomba!
*wink*
Gramps Ben
