Grandpa’s Guide to Driving in Mornington Peninsula

Mornington Peninsula is well, a peninsula located on the southeast of Melbourne, Australia. It’s surrounded by Port Phillip to the west, by Western Port to the east, and by Bass Strait to the south. The peninsula is connected to the mainland in the north.

Around 135,000 people live in the peninsula and most of them are located in the small towns on the peninsula’s western shorelines (which are sometimes regarded as outlying suburbs of greater Melbourne). And during the summer months, Mornington Peninsula’s population bloats to around 250,000! This simply shows that the peninsula is a primary tourist destination.

Mornington Peninsula offers natural attractions such as beaches, both sheltered and open-sea, and numerous scenic sights and views.

Aside from beaches, some of the popular attractions in Mornington Peninsula are:

1. The Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park

The Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park is a 25 acre biopark within Pearcedale Conservation Park on Mornington Peninsula.

It aims to showcase the fauna that was found in the Mornington Peninsula and Western Port Biosphere Reserve prior to European settlement. The sanctuary also engages in conservation breeding of endangered species.

Moonlit Sanctuary has evening walks where a guide takes visitors on a walk through natural bush land where people could see many nocturnal animals (many of them are endangered which means that this experience should not be missed). Joining the sanctuary’s evening walks is an experience way cooler than the experience of visiting normal zoos!

The park is open all year except on Christmas Day.

2. The Mornington Peninsula National Park

The Mornington Peninsula National Park is located 77 kilometers south of Melbourne. The National Park is one of Victoria’s most popular and most admired parks because it protects many of the area’s natural attractions and provides a significant habitat for many form of wildlife.

3. The Dromana Drive-in Theatre

Want to experience the Drive In back in the 50’s and 60’s?

You should not miss out the Dromana Drive-in Theatre once you visit Mornington Peninsula because this is one of the last remaining drive-in theatres in Victoria!

Dromana Drive In has been continuously operating since 1963. So where else could you relive the fun of taking your family to the hottest family night out spot during the 60’s?!
