Right up the top of most travelers lists when they’re in Brisbane are the surrounding areas of the city; the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast. Eat, drink and chai latte at scores of highly regarded restaurants, bars and cafes in the central districts of Brisbane city, South Bank, West End, Paddington, Bulimba, Rosalie, Milton, and Wilston.

Road trips, short or long are ideal in Brissy, because of the variety of landscapes in the surrounding areas you can cruise, trek or sail through. To the north there’s the Deception Bay area which moves on to the Sunshine Coast and further on to Double Island Point (right) and Fraser Island. Serious fishers or 4 Wheel Drivers heard further north for Rainbow Beach, Airlie Beach and 1770 for hard core fishing and truly coastal camping.

In from the Sunshine Coast, there are the mountains, forests and outback pleasures. Check out the quaint mountain towns Montville and nearby Melany, while Saturday markets are a South East Coast favourite in the super laid back town of Eumundi.

Heading south of the city is the infamous Surfers Paradise and numerous Gold Coast attractions, mountains, surf and theme parks, not to mention some world class shopping and dining. Head west for Mount Tamborine or further south for the Tweed area or even into NSW for a Coffs Harbour (left)/ Ballina/ Byron Bay retreat.
