Sydney’s foreshore area around the harbour is in large part devoted to National Parkland, the city offers a wide selection of walking trails.

For instance, d'Albora Marinas Akuna Bay is a marina village based in the heart of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, Terrey Hills and is just 40 minutes from the CBD. For stunning views of Sydney visit Bradley's Head (right), near Taronga Zoo. Views of the city from Mrs Macquarie's Chair and Vaucluse heights are also amazing. Or tour through the leafy northern beach suburbs.
Then take a ferry from Circular Quay to Taronga Zoo, the Zoo with the amazing view of the Harbour. Apart from the native animals, Taronga zoo also has 2000 rare and endangered animals including Sumatran tigers and Kodiak bears.
The Heart of Manly Heritage Walk begins at Manly Wharf. But you can start the walk at any point. The Heart of Manly Heritage Walk is devised as in a clockwise direction, circumnavigating The Corso.
For tranquil greenery, the Royal Botanic Gardens (right) on Mrs Macquaries Road, is unmissable. They're immaculately groomed, formal and distinctly European in appearance.
Sydney harbour also offers an array of water sports and adventures. Go for a quick cross- harbour ferry- boat ride. Or zoom around the harbour on a jet boat.
Sydney sea kayak tour operator Natural Wanders offers kayak tours that take you under the Harbour Bridge, past the Opera House and into the tranquil bays and beaches of Sydney's north shore.
Cruises depart from Circular Quay or from the eastern side of Darling Harbour. John Cadman Cruising Restaurant sails nightly at 5.00pm and again at 7pm from No. 6 Jetty, Circular Quay.
And, of course, you can’t go passed the seaside township of Manly. Take a walk along The Corso and see the beach that has made Manly famous.
For more beach fun, why not squish your toes around in the white sands of the world famous Bondi Beach (left). Apart from Bondi, you can find awesome Sydney surf at Tamarama, Narrabeen, and most of the beaches lining the 30km coastline from Manly to Palm Beach.
The calm waters off Balmoral and Chinaman's Beach are excellent for swimming. Some diving takes place off Manly and Palm Beach.
Sydney’s popular nudist beaches include Lady Jane Beach at Watson’s Bay and Obelisk Beach at Mosman, the latter being popular with the gay community.
