Gold Coast Beaches

Hard to resist...

The Gold Coast has shot up as a a popular world class holiday destination. And, regardless of whether you’re a fan of high-rise resorts and busy beaches, it’s easy to see why it’s so appealing.

With a stretch of white sandy beaches running for 42 kilometres, World Heritage listed rainforests, a handful of world class theme parks, phenomenal shopping, delicious restaurants – it’s got all the holiday elements rolled into one.

The beach fun is endless on the Gold Coast! Surf school, surf lifesaving carnivals, building sandcastles, swimming and of course lounging on the shore will keep you preoccupied on your sun drenched holiday.

If you’re just into old fashioned splashing about in the waves, Surfer’s Paradise is a perfect swimming location for families. After beach action, regenerate with a cool drink or lunch at the nearby cafes and shopping areas. On Friday night, stroll down the beach esplanade and enjoy the craft market.

Broadbeach has a long stretch of gorgeous sand, and warm clear waters to frollick in. Afterwards, head to the greenery of the Burleigh Head National Park for a picnic or a wander.

Burleigh Heads, located midway along the Gold Coast’s stretch of beach, is said to be a hit with the locals. Sprinkled with pines and pandanus, Burleigh Heads is also a popular site for major international surfboard riding tournaments. It’s particularly popular among surfers for its tubular Burleigh Barrel waves, and more generally for its stunning views of north to Surfer’s Paradise.

If you’re more into the aesthetics of the beach, rather than actually tumbling in the waves, Currumbin is the beach for you. Said to be a photographer’s paradise, Currumbin beach has magical views of north and south. Young families will also appreciate Currumbin for its calm surf, clean shore and the numerous rock pools to explore. The Currumbin Creek also makes a pretty fishing spot.

Perhaps some of the prettiest beaches on the Gold Coast, however, are at Coolangatta. The white sands of Coolangatta's sheltered beach and nearby picnic areas have proven popular with visitors from far and wide.

On the second Sunday of the month, Coolangatta also hold a market along its beach front where you can pick up great local handicrafts.
